Remembering Iqbal Hussain - a remarkable artist, a generous teacher, and a deeply kind human being.

Iqbal Sahib was among the earliest to believe in my gallery . In 2007, he became the second artist to exhibit at the Tanzara , offering his work, his presence, and his unwavering support at a time when it mattered most. Over the years, he went on to have three exhibitions with us, but his contribution extended far beyond the walls of the gallery.

For me, he was not only a renowned artist, but also a teacher- someone who shared his wisdom with quiet grace, warmth, and humility. He was gentle in spirit, sincere in his friendships, and always generous with encouragement.

These photographs of him with my family hold the memory of warmth , conversation, and affection. They remind us that behind the celebrated artist was a truly beautiful soul.

You will be deeply missed, Iqbal Sahib.
Your art, your kindness, and your legacy live on.

‘all is vanity’
by Irfan Cheema

In this new body of work, Irfan Cheema returns to the still life not as a decorative tradition, but as a space for reflection. Birds, fruit, and foliage appear lush and composed, yet quietly hold the tension between abundance and decline, beauty and inevitability.

Drawing from classical symbolism, Cheema’s imagery resists fixed allegory. The birds are not merely ornamental - they are witnesses. Each element becomes a meditation on time, fragility, and the fleeting nature of possession and pleasure.

‘all is vanity’ invites the viewer to slow down, to look beyond surface beauty, and to consider what remains once excess fades - hovering between the seen and the felt.

Bringing together a new body of work, the exhibition reflects on beauty, impermanence, and the passage of time through the language of still life. Birds, fruit, and foliage draw from classical symbolism, unfolding as quiet meditations on abundance, change, and memory.

Rendered with exceptional attention to detail, Kashmiri shawls, stone ledges, camphor leaves, and unlit lamps anchor the works in craft, history, and lived experience—where beauty exists in quiet dialogue with time.
