D Draw Now

D Draw Now Creating new things makes me smile. I know it makes others smile too. And so I keep creating. Digital Draw Now is my way of encouraging more people to draw.

Gosh I created, paintings, books, software, haha and 3 kids.Kids I have enough, but other things I can still produce, like paintings! With the proliferation of mobile devices, it is actually easy to pick up the phone, the tablet and start sketching away. It is one of the best ways to zone out. It has been over 1500 pieces of drawing since I started uploading works in 2014. Hope to get more people onto the bandwagon. Draw now, digitally. D Draw Now.

I repainted these watercolour pieces of the old Mandarin Hotel on Petaling Street
for one who has never stayed in there before but wonders what it was like back then, when it was in full glory.
To understand the stark difference, one must really have experienced the place before and then compare it to the current disparate state. I can still feel the yearning of those top floor windows when they look down at the crowded streets, and you can almost empathize with that wish for lively sound among the empty rooms.

I paint this heritage building used as a Neighbourhood Police Post in watercolour,
for the many who passes it by daily like me,
to finally pause and read the poster on the wall. This is described as being a heritage building. Used as a police post and previously as a post office too. It was even part of a larger government complex. Now it is the standalone building amidst a plot of greenery, very lonely and yet looking strong. Note the oblique front face, not the usual balanced ones of such old buildings.

I paint this quiet corner beside Mondrian Hotel Duxton Singapore in watercolour for the many business travellers who stayed there over weekends, to recall a quiet moment on that weekend morning, making plans for what to do that weekend, alone, before the chaos of work start again on Monday...that little moment of urgency to loosen up, to have a small burst of distraction from business life.

I painted this Yishun 10 Cineplex
for folks like me living in the north of Singapore,
to remember days when we go for midnight movies and can still walk home on foot, to remember the late night supper before the show, plus seeing it reminds one of a time when it was painted auspicious red after Jacky Chan owned it for a few years.

Khoo Teck Puat Hospital holds lasting memories for me. From full recovery of a loved one to death of another. One of the reasons I paint places. Not for the sake of the place itself, more for the stories it holds for people. Does this place tell a story to you?

Painted from a cafe in Yishun next to the reservoir there.

This is Yishun. This is Singapore.
This is where many of our stories begin.

Repainted the building.
For one thing, I forgot the mantra, 浅浅浅浅. To dilute and let the light through.

In essence though, these pieces capture that morning's view as wifey and I sat across that building. Sipping coffee and tea to make them last while we hog the seats for 3 hours.

This edition of the Cove is an interesting building with the black rooftop also housing some rooms as we see windows and doors opening out.

The ground floor has one thing I prefer not to paint... A horse's ass with this writing above 拍拍马屁,顺顺利利。 Literally asking one to hit the horse's ass to have a smooth life. It also means sucking up to others to smoothen matters.
