Philadelphia, of all places, has struggled with recognizing the importance of preservation, from the loss of the Boyd Theater, to the loss of a Firehouse in Race St. to expand the convention center, to other buildings that have failed to get historic designation. Odd for a city that celebrates American History to let so much more recent history go.

The heart of the city's new approach is a citywide survey of historic buildings and a regulatory delay on issuing demolition permits for significant buildings not listed on the Philadelphia Register of Historic Places.

Glad to see the National Trust for Historic Preservation designate Nina Simone’s Home a National Treasure and can’t wait to see what it becomes. I am sure it will be in good stewardship hands with Brent Leggs.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation will start a campaign to rehabilitate Simone’s birthplace — which two years ago was on the brink of destruction.

Great Story of what might have been, if there was not white backlash (sound familiar), when African Americans were elected to write a new Virginia constitution after the civil war.

During Reconstruction, African Americans were fully represented in Richmond and had an equal hand in shaping state government. But it didn't last.

I would rather see this revitalized as a high speed rail hub, but Ford Motor Company possibly buying the building is exciting news.

If a deal comes to fruition, it would mark the automaker's biggest step back into the city where it was born, three months after it said it was going to put more than 200 employees just down Michigan Avenue in The Factory at Corktown building.

This is a Great Museum and could become an even better museum with he City of Alexandria's help. The city should move to purchase the building, and make it part of the Black History Museum which is starved for space. What an opportunity to take on a Museum that already exists.

Decade-old museum has struggled to draw visitors and raise money, and it almost lost its mortgage last year.

Great move to protect over 300 Properties from immediate demolition in Philadelphia while the groundwork can be laid for a local historic district that can provide longer term protection.

The bill would prevent demolitions in the zoned area for one year.

Sears Kit Homes were built all over the United States including the Del Rey neighborhood of Alexandria VA. It was near a railroad track and very working class in the 1920 and 30's as its population grew and needed homes. You will even see a Sears model in this video called the Del Rey.

Call or write your Congressman or Congresswoman and tell him or her to protect our historic tax credits so we can keep in revitalizing downtowns like Danville VA!

Danville economic development consultant Linwood Wright minces no words when it comes to the effect historic tax credits have on local economic development.

As Construction Booms, Philadelphia Seeks to Preserve Its Past: Without the Historic Preservation Tax credits even more of historic Philadelphia could be lost. The Historic Preservation commission can not keep up with all the historic designation requests, so if incentives are removed, buildings will surely be lost.

A surging demand for commercial property has preservationists and city officials looking for more ways to defend historic sites from the wrecker’s ball.
