August 12, 1965 - The building housing University Hospital opened its doors 40 years ago – now 101 years ago today in 2026, having taken in its first patients on Aug. 11, 1925. The photo here is from 1921. Is - its story of physical progress is told in pictures on this Ann Arbor District Library page: aadl.org/node/79700

University Hospital marked by the letter (a) in this aerial photograph is dwarfed by newer structures including Women's Hospital (b), the Outpatient Building (c), Neuropsychiatric Institute (e), and Children's Psychiatrc Hospital (f)- all of which make up the patient services facilities of the U-M Medical Center. Another patient service facility, the $7,000,000 Mott Children's Hospital, is expected to be under construction this fall at the site marked (d). The two old buildings at lower left marked (p), both predecessor units of the present University Hospital, were demolished this summer to make way for a new $12,000,000 Medical Science Building, which also will be started this fall. Other Medical Center buildings in this picture, in addition to the patient facilities are: Medical Science Building I (h), home of the U-M Medical School; School of Nursing (g); Interns Residence (i); Kresge Research Building (j); Kresge Hearing Research Institute (k); Kresge Medical Science Building (1); Mental Health Research Institute (m); Medical Library (n); and Buehl Genetics Research Building (o).
