Hi All,
I wanted to just reach out and bring a little hope to our arts community that is hurting so badly right now. I have been given the opportunity to provide creative and sales space and am currently working out the details. The main goal is to get artists back to work after so much loss. This arts community, specifically the RAD, has been my home for almost 10 years now. We would love for this to be in Asheville, but space is more limited now than ever. However, I have generously been donated around 30,000 square feet of space in the pavilion at the Tryon International Equestrian Center (only 50 minutes from Asheville). The entire second floor of the building.
The space is climate controlled, has elevator access, WiFi, and restrooms. It overlooks the show jumping courses at the center. The space is a blank canvas right now. If you currently have traveling display furniture for art fairs that will be great to use and we are working on potentially getting some movable walls built in the future. This space will aim to serve artist’s needs for a while. Hopefully until our River Arts District is able to recover. This is also not just for the RAD. Other impacted communities are invited as well.
The best part about it… is that it will be FREE to use. The current goal is to create an “art fair” type environment that will be open to the public Thursday-Sunday, however, artists will be able to go and create during the week if they choose to set up a studio in the space or create on the days that it’s open to the public as you normally would in the RAD.
I know we are all hurting right now, but this can be a glimmer of hope and opportunity to get people back on their feet and doing what they love after so much loss. I know some of you may not be ready. That’s totally ok. Give yourself time to grieve and time to rest. Whenever you’re ready we will be here to help.
Love to you all.
Matt
