Another local install in the books! Always more fun (and safe) when you have a friend that can come along. Thanks to my amazing friend for always being available to help out when spur of the moment jobs pop up! On to the next one! This piece came all the way from London to transform this client’s space.

I probably wouldn’t be doing what I am today if it wasn’t for a trip I took in January 2013 with to follow the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh throughout the Netherlands and France. I definitely wouldn’t have had the motivation to pursue a Master’s at without it. Thank you for turning one of my favorite photographs from this trip into a one of a kind original piece. It’s the same scene and vantage point of one of my favorite Van Gogh pieces, “The Church at Auvers.” Vincent and his brother, Theo, permanently rest just up the hill from the church.

I’ve been working in the art business for the better part of ten years. I’ve always been a creative person, but never considered myself an artist. I’ve always been keen on taking photographs when there’s good light, or painting when I feel like it’s a good way to express myself. I’ve always found joy in helping artists with their success and I’ve stuck with that and have made it my passion and career. No, I’m not becoming a full-time artist, however, I’m releasing some images I’ve taken as prints as a fundraiser for our beloved, . Joshua at created me some amazing archival 8x10 prints on the best paper you can buy and I’m donating proceeds from each print to Wedge Brewing for anything they may need. They have always been a hub for all of us with creative careers and we want to continue that. I’m offering “OG” and “Foundy” above. Both images I have taken in the past year. Each print will be $30 and is signed and titled by yours truly. $10 from each individual print will go to Wedge for anything they may need to continue their legacy. Thank you all for your support. I’ve printed 25 of each photograph and will print more if there is more demand. Please DM me for more info and we plan to have these available at the taprooms as well! Love you all. -Matt

Here’s another fundraiser I’ve been helping directly organize to support Asheville artists in need. It’s in partnership with the owner of Bear’s Smokehouse and her non-profit Linked4Life. If you’re an artist and would like to help, there’s a simple Google submission form on the page to upload an image. These prints will be sold nation-wide as 12”x12” or 11”x14” reproductions and ship directly to the buyer. The link for submissions can be found on the site (link in comments) under “submit art.” You don’t have to be a local artist to WNC to submit work! This is a nation-wide call to artists that want to help.

If you’re looking to purchase, check out the gallery! We already have 45 pieces live and plan to grow that much larger. They are affordable (between $25 and $100) and all proceeds go towards helping artists of Western NC regain their livelihoods and rebuild their careers.

Please feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions!

Art Conservation Workshop Gauging Interest:

Some previous coworkers from my time in the fine art conservation space reached out to me this morning and want to offer FREE conservation advice and techniques to help people with damaged work. We would set up in a place for the day and they would help to give DIY solutions that will prevent furthering the damage to the work and stabilizing it to be sold again.
This will be hosted by two conservators with master’s degrees in fine art conservation. One works with all painting mediums and the other specializes in works on paper and books. I know many of you lost precious sketchbooks as well and saving them is possible!

This is just gauging interest from the community. If anyone has a space that we could set this up, that would be great as well. If weather permits it could be done outside, but we would most likely need to be away from all of the dust.

**Update**
Just got off the phone with Daniel McClendon and we will plan to host it at The Lift Studios depending on how much interest we get. Since he did experience a lot of damage to his space, we definitely want to discourage having people bring muddy/contaminated work after all of the cleaning and work he’s had to do over the past three weeks with friends and family. I’m going to try and source a few paintings and works on paper/sketchbooks that can be used as examples.

Thanks in advance for the help, ideas, and all of your continued support!

-Matt

Hi All,

I wanted to just reach out and bring a little hope to our arts community that is hurting so badly right now. I have been given the opportunity to provide creative and sales space and am currently working out the details. The main goal is to get artists back to work after so much loss. This arts community, specifically the RAD, has been my home for almost 10 years now. We would love for this to be in Asheville, but space is more limited now than ever. However, I have generously been donated around 30,000 square feet of space in the pavilion at the Tryon International Equestrian Center (only 50 minutes from Asheville). The entire second floor of the building.

The space is climate controlled, has elevator access, WiFi, and restrooms. It overlooks the show jumping courses at the center. The space is a blank canvas right now. If you currently have traveling display furniture for art fairs that will be great to use and we are working on potentially getting some movable walls built in the future. This space will aim to serve artist’s needs for a while. Hopefully until our River Arts District is able to recover. This is also not just for the RAD. Other impacted communities are invited as well.

The best part about it… is that it will be FREE to use. The current goal is to create an “art fair” type environment that will be open to the public Thursday-Sunday, however, artists will be able to go and create during the week if they choose to set up a studio in the space or create on the days that it’s open to the public as you normally would in the RAD.

I know we are all hurting right now, but this can be a glimmer of hope and opportunity to get people back on their feet and doing what they love after so much loss. I know some of you may not be ready. That’s totally ok. Give yourself time to grieve and time to rest. Whenever you’re ready we will be here to help.

Love to you all.

Matt

The generosity has been amazing. Was able to pick up $400 worth of high-quality respirators today that were in need for people cleaning up one of the hardest hit areas in the River arts district. If you feel the need to give, I’m a small operation, but this money is going to great use in our arts community.
