Ahead of my show opening, I wanted to share a piece that is quite personal. It’s a piece that came from the chaos and trust involved with my wife, Jessica, and i’s move to Atlanta from Austin in 2023. She was laid off after the company she worked for dissolved, which set off a job hunt aligned with, coincidentally, my last solo show at the now shuttered Vaughn Gallery in Austin. She found a job in Atlanta, and we planned our move across the country. The week that the movers were coming, we found out that we were unexpectedly expecting a baby. A lot of emotions were involved, but we met this with ultimately gratitude and trust in the universe and god. Once we physically arrived in Atlanta, our stuff was about a week behind us and in the empty TINY tiny house that we rented before we knew our family was going to grow, we truly had nothing but eachother, and the nervous, cautious hope for the future. For our future. For a new future in a new city, that we knew no one in. That year was tough, but through it, and through the trust that we built, we’ve been able to come such a long way, and I’m reminded of the path every morning when I get the chance to sit with my family in our kitchen, sharing breakfast with my now almost two year old daughter and drinking coffee/tea with my wife in our home. This piece is about a recommitment to eachother and to a dream through one hell of a storm.
“I have spread my dreams under your feet”, 2025, acrylic on canvas mounted on shaped wood with 22k gold leaf, 70 x 40 inches
Fun fact: if you have my book “in plain air”, the canvas that I’m holding on the cover later became this piece. Interesting how full circle it all is.
This piece and many others, is on view at from now through April 24. The opening reception is Friday March 13 from 6-9 pm. Hope you can check it out!
