Looking for a new home for this fabulous painting by American self taught artist Purvis Young (1943-2010.) 72”H x 48”W; ca. 1990-94. Please private message me if you are interested.

One of the most celebrated outsider artists, his life was told in the documentary "Purvis of Overtown."

Young began painting after serving a two-year prison sentence for theft in 1965. Self-taught, his pictorial work and installations depicted the poverty, crime and social problems of Miami's black neighborhoods. He painted on cardboard, doors, wood, scrap objects, walls defining himself as a street artist. In 1970 he painted a mural in an abandoned Overtown alley that caught the attention of critics and collectors.

His work is in collections such as the Corcoran Gallery in Washington DC , the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Virginia Museum, the American Folk Art Museum in Manhattan, the Bass Museum , the High Museum in Atlanta, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Museum of Boca Raton. He also participated in several individual and group exhibitions and galleries from New York to Cologne.
