I have always had a soft spot for story quilts like this, because they are not just beautiful, they feel like little tales told in fabric. This was one I made last year, and by the time I finished it, winter had arrived, which was perfect because it was exactly the kind of season that makes you want to wrap yourself in something soft and stay warm. To be honest, I had every intention of keeping this one for myself. I looked at those scarf wearing cats by the window and the fireplace and thought, “Well, this one clearly belongs with me.” Then my dear friend came along, admired it for a while, and gently informed me that she needed it more than I did, with such sincere urgency that you would think winter was chasing her down the street. I laughed so hard, but I also knew I had already lost. Who could say no to a plea that sweet.

Take a look at my cat here he’s made of my husband’s old shirts, the living room curtains, and even an apron I almost threw out. He’s literally a walking wardrobe! I bet he doesn’t even know what breed he is, but he’s definitely the most "Thrifty Breed" in the neighborhood.
