HSFM FACEBOOK PAGE STRIVES TO BE PURE ... ALL ABOUT FORT MEADE HISTORY. THANK YOU FOR NOT POSTING "SALE OR SERVICE" ITEMS.

Please don't forget that we can always use your empty ink cartridges.......whether big or small. We get credit towards purchased items that the HSFM would have to take out of our budget. Drop them off in the mail slot or let us know if you need them picked up. Schools, businesses etc often just put these cartridges in the garbage and they mean $ to us. Thank you in advance for your consideration. ALSO........you can always order a brick for the front walkway. The price still remains $50 per engraved brick and installation. We have several orders pending and would like to get some others ordered before it is 90 degrees and our friends have to install them. If you would like to purchase one for your church, grandchildren, class of 2026, loving parents, local business etc. please feel free to contact us. It is a fun time to watch events and see people look at all the wonderful names on our memorial walk. Thank you in advance for supporting us.

The engraved bricks have all been completed and are going to be installed on the front sidewalk tomorrow (as long as it doesn't rain). Thanks to all that purchased bricks. There is a form on this page should you want to order one in memory of a loved one, honor of a relative.........or for your family in general, business etc. You can put the form and check in the mail or drop it off at the museum (in the door mail slot). Thank you all and thanks to the gentlemen that will be installing them. We are in need of volunteers to do tours on Wednesdays starting in 2026 from 10-12 an 12-2 should you be interested in helping out. We hope to see you this week at the Holly Jolly Trolly Tour!

Nine bricks were ordered this week for our walk leading to the Historical Society and will be installed by Christmas. This is such a wonderful way to remember friends, relatives and also to celebrate them. During the 175th event we saw so many people reading all the bricks. This is not a fund-raising event as the cost of the bricks, professional engraving and installation pretty much is the $50 that is charged per brick. The fee hasn't changed for years. Tomorrow, I will post the form again should anyone be interested. While we can't guarantee new orders will be installed on the sidewalk by Christmas, we do have several hard-working gentlemen that are ready to do the job. We have no bricks ordered for the Class of 2026 and also many businesses in Ft. Meade don't have a brick.... What a wonderful Christmas remembrance for family and friends for family and friends that are so difficult to purchase for, Thank you in advance for your consideration to extend our "memorial walk".

I was recently asked to share some history points about Fort Meade. As I began to think of the obvious, I couldn't help but also think of the forgotten. I have Dr. Canter Brown, Jr. to thank for igniting my love for Fort Meade history. Facinating and stimulating history of more than 3,000 years taking place right here.
As I pondered on the vision of what was, I jotted my own interpretation. I hope you enjoy and that you might remember.
TALAKCHOPKO HATCHEE
Priscilla White Perry

Peas River … not Peace River
Mere ripples lapped the banks of Talakchopko Hatchee
Narrow and Shallow
Ripples that have erased footprints of mighty warriors from millennia ago Brave and Royal
Paths led to and from the temple near Muscogee
Sacred and Healing
Brothers came by hundreds to harvest glassy black chert
For Weapons For Tools
Talakchopko !! Once a center of grand commerce among the ancients Famous and Envied
No, We are not the first to hear the serenity of nature along its banks Silent yet Revealing
Others had long heeded the warnings from escaping quail rising in the air But not that Day
Seminoles rose to reclaim. Rose against the invasion of progress And Ownership and Power
Though Talakchopko remained and did not veer its course,
It Flowed Red to Larger Waters
Today, the Hatchee still laps the banks of the “Place Where Long Peas Are Grown”
Irreverently Ignored and Unheard
And you, my friend, stand where they stood on the banks of the Peaceful Talakchopko
Listen … you may hear their Whispers
