The Cordial Eye is a community arts organization based on the Mid-Cape that strives to use the arts and arts education as a tool for expanding the definition of who belongs on Cape Cod and what it means to be a creative person here. We are dedicated to dismantling systems of oppression in our community by creating space for marginalized groups to amplify their impact in creating a more just and eq

uitable world through gathering, experimentation, exhibitions, and cultural expression. Our two branches - The Cordial Eye Artist Space, which provides performance, exhibition, and professional development opportunities for artists, and The Cordial Eye Learning Lab, which provides educational opportunities for learners of all ages- are committed to centering the voices and needs of historically-excluded communities. By creating programming by, for, and with these communities- which include BIPOC folks, LGBTQ+ folks, disabled folks, and folks with financial barriers to access- we seek to create a Cape Cod that is vibrant, equitable, and a place of belonging for all

Reminiscing on some special moments in year 1 of Creative Care- our art-therapy-informed program for kids between the ages of 9 and 13. 🥰 We’re kicking off year 2 one week from today and we saved a spot for the kiddo in your life! This FREE program uses arts-based-mentorship, peer connection, and the supervision of a certified art therapist to help kids develop resilience and a healthy sense of self. Creative Care meets on Tuesdays from 5-6:30, with an all-genders group every week and a rotating gender-based group. Our first session will be led by Annie Lupton with the all-gender group ( ) and Kai Barrows ( ) for gender nonconforming kiddos. Register at our website, spots are limited!

Resilience is the ability of an individual to bounce back from life’s challenges and has an important impact on mental health. Research shows that resiliency can be built and strengthened by creating connections, fostering a sense of well-being, and finding a purpose. Creative Care is focused on building community connections, compassion, and social support while developing competence and confidence in art-making. Classes will also reinforce using art-making as a healthy coping skill. Led by trained Teaching Artists, Creative Care will provide an experience of high-quality arts education, peer connection, and supportive mentorship.

Creative Care is designed for youth between the ages of 9 and 13 and meets every week, on Tuesdays from 5pm-6:30pm. Each week will have a general group, open to youth of any gender. In the same time slot, a rotating gender-based group will be offered: Men in the Making for boys, Empower Her for girls, and Boundless Creators for gender-nonconforming youth. The year is broken down into 6-week sessions and we encourage participants to join us for multiple sessions, as they are able! Participation in Creative Care is offered at no cost to participants. Enrollment is limited to 12 students per group; spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis at TheCordialEye.org.

Creative Care is made possible by the generous partnership of the Peter and Elizabeth Tower Foundation and the Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation.

Today, many Americans are striking in protest of the oppressive actions of our federal government.

Belonging Books and The Cordial Eye exist every day to dismantle systems of oppression and support those most impacted by them. Community solidarity is the antidote to the abuse of power that our nation is experiencing.

In that spirit, our space at 438 Main Street is open today from 11 am to 5 pm. Come in for refuge, have a conversation with your neighbor, use our craft supplies to create some activist art, write a letter to your local officials, get inspired.

What you heard is true. We ARE trying to make the yuletide gay! 🌲🌈

We have two events this week that you are sure to love:
❄️ Make The Yuletide Gay- A Sufmas Singalong!
Friday, Dec 19th at 6:00 PM

The Cordial Eye is hosting a celebration of songwriter Sufjan Stevens’ body of holiday music–known as “Sufmas,” these singalongs happen across the country each year. Join us for a singalong with live band, a special read-aloud with author Sophia Flowers, community artmaking, and some sweet treats. Note- This is a non-religious event: people of all faiths or no faith are most welcome. For all ages! $5 suggested donation.

Saturday, Dec 20th from 6:00 - 9:00 PM
On December 20th, The Cordial Eye is hosting another Misfits Night Market! This time, it's HOLIGAY SZN. Maybe it is a little weird, a bit risqué, and quite likely gay.

Both events will be held at located at 81 Willow Ave. Hyannis, MA
