Today we honor the Native peoples who have lived on, cared for, and shaped this land since time immemorial. The city we call Cheyenne sits on the traditional homelands of the Cheyenne (Tsétsêhéstâhese) and Arapaho peoples, and has long been shared with the Lakota, Shoshone, Crow, Ute, and other nations who traveled, traded, and gathered across the High Plains. 🪶🦬🌾
Indigenous history in Wyoming didn’t stop in the past. Today, the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho Tribes share the Wind River Reservation, the only reservation in our state, where language, art, storytelling, and traditions are kept alive and passed to new generations. 🛖🦅🌲
This week, we invite our young learners and their families to ask questions, read a new book, and learn the names of the places and people around us. Curiosity is how we start to understand each other. 💛
