We are proud to announce that Mesh added the work of Charles Spitzack to our Artist list.

Charles Spitzack is a Seattle-based artist specializing in woodblock printmaking, with a practice rooted in traditional techniques and contemporary themes. A graduate of Cornish College of the Arts (BFA 2010), his work has been widely exhibited in solo and group shows across the U.S. and internationally, including recent exhibitions at Davidson Galleries, the Imadate Art Museum in Japan, and Bellevue Art Museum. Charles is an active educator and community arts leader—serving as Board President of Seattle Print Arts and teaching extensively at institutions like Pratt Fine Arts Center and the Bellevue Art Museum. His work is held in notable collections such as the Microsoft Art Collection and the Southern Graphics Printmaking Archive.

Mesh is proud to announce that Livio Ceschin’s solo show: The Poetry of Light will be on display at the Art Gallery at Stanford in Washington through August 17th 2025. The Show was curated by Eric Denker, senior lecturer at the National Gallery of Art

Born in Pieve di Soligo (Italy) in 1962, Livio Ceschin still lives nearby in Montebelluna, a city an hour’s drive from Venice.  Initially trained in that city’s Istituto Statale d’Arte, from which he graduated in 1982, Ceschin refocused his attention to intaglio in 1991.  He enrolled in etching classes at the Accademia Raffaello in Urbino in 1992.  His encounter with Paolo Fraternali, who taught that class, was formative.  Initial exercises in copying old masters gave way to his first depictions of the landscape.  Ceschin quickly developed a personal mixed media technique, made of etching zinc plates which are enhanced with drypoint, thus lending them a softness uncharacteristic of pure etching.

Have you thought about AI’s influence on your work? This art dealership has. As we prepared to spend an hour making insightful comments about Michel Estèbe’s latest print, we decided to let „Copilot“ take a stab at it. We asked it to make 5 whimsical comments about Michel’s latest print (available on our website), titled „Salto“, his cat. Here is what we got.

1. This cat seems to be the purrfect artist’s muse, sitting amidst all those paintbrushes and plants.
2. I wonder if this feline is contemplating its next masterpiece or just enjoying the cozy studio vibes.
3. With those big, curious eyes, it looks like this kitty is ready to jump into the canvas and become part of the artwork!
4. The cat’s stripes blend so well with the artistic chaos around it, almost like it’s camouflaged in creativity.
5. Perhaps this kitty is the secret behind all the beautiful paintings in the studio, silently inspiring the artist with its presence.

Here are two atmospheric monotypes by Marketa Kemp depicting the marshy landscape of the Jawbone Flora and Fauna Reserve, at the edge of Melbourne (Victoria, Australia). This natural escape has been a constant source of inspiration for Marketa and looking at photographs of this coastal park it's not hard to see why. Both depictions are oblong vertical formats (ideal for a narrow wall, in a hallway perhaps…). One shows grasses reflected in nearly windstill and utterly quiet conditions. Is it dusk or dawn? Your call. Just one small ripple in the foreground suggests motion. Everything else is still. In the other composition, fog is rolling in, lapping the edges of the shore, and lending the landscape an air of mystery. This monotype is printed to the sheet's edges, giving it an attractive "object" quality and giving the viewer a sense of the landscape beyond. Our imagination gets to fill in what's left, right, at our feet, and all the way high into the sky.

I thought I would be back sooner with another couple of images, showing more of William Hays' amazing, recent color linocut reductions. But what didn't get in the way: a Spring Break trip, three print fairs, an auction, climbing in Kentucky?
Here at last are two more prints by New England's talented and hard-working relief color printmaker, as promised a few weeks ago. And if you care to know more about the life behind Mesh, swipe left (or is it right?). You'll see a couple of snaps of recently matted works getting readied for their primetime at print fairs (we do our own matting), my buddy John helping me wrap 70+ auction packages (we do our own packaging), and "yours truly" climbing pockets in the Red River Gorge (we do our own hand scuffing)…

But we are happy to report that we not only have availability of nearly every work still in print at this time, but we also have William's two latest prints, finished in the past few weeks. For those who like to look out at the blue winter light from the comfort of their home, or car, or camper… you will love "Lapis Moon" and "Winter Field" featured in this post. They are available for purchase on our website (link in bio). They come matted, and shipping via UPS Ground is included. We'll feature more of William's recent work in the coming days.
