Thank you to iTIP (Iowa Travel Industry Partners) for choosing Wapello County to host the annual iLEAD conference in February! Meet Ottumwa was responsible for securing this honor with their application. Opening night, we turned the American Gothic House into a prohibition-themed establishment before heading into the "speakeasy" of American Gothic House Center where participants played an escape game to find Boss Carrow's black ledger! Tons of fun and hope to make this event available to the public once the education center is completed!

A great way for youth to be involved!

The Wapello County Youth Conservation Board (WCYCB) will be a place where youth (ages 14-20) will create engaging ways to contribute to the community through environmental education, stewardship and outreach. Members will gain skills in leadership, local government operations and community board management. Our vision is to engage future generations in decision-making, ensuring that conservation efforts create a safe and sustainable world for those who come after us.

The deadline for applications is January 30th, 2026, so don't miss it! If you apply after that date, you will be placed on a waiting list. We'll notify all applicants of their status by February 19th, 2026.

If you have any questions or need assistance with your application, please email the naturalist Sara Runyan at [email protected].
