Chaffee Crossing Historic District "Hair today, gone tomorrow."
📍Chaffee Barbershop and Military Museum

The Chaffee Barbershop Museum not only lets the visitor 'step back in time' to that day in 1958 when Elvis got his symbolic army haircut, but serves to honor the effect Fort Chaffee had on the state of Arkansas and the important role it played in World War II and every decade following.

With today being Memorial Day we wanted to highlight a treasure we have our in archives. This 48 Gold Star Casket Flag was graciously donated by John Wilson. After the landings at Normandy & the liberation of Paris, the French people wanted to pay respects to the families of the fallen. The French knew of the tradition to hang a Gold Star flag in the window to symbolize that a loved one who resided there has fallen. They thought it was an American flag with gold stars. French clothing manufacturers produced these & shipped them to the states. This act of kindness serves as a reminder that freedom is not free. We remember those who have fallen while serving our nation’s military & our hearts are with their families today. ⭐️

It’s & we wanted to highlight our history from 51 years ago when we served as a refugee resettlement camp after the fall of Saigon. One of those families who returned years later has a heartfelt message.

Our parents, Tuong & Mich Nguyen, escaped communism after the fall of Vietnam and landed in Guam. Soon after, we arrived in Fort Chaffee and stayed here between May 1975 - October 1975. We are blessed for the opportunity to visit our place of refuge over 50 years later. We are forever grateful to all the volunteers at Camp Fort Chaffee since 1975 for receiving us with open arms. God bless America.
