Frank and Selie (Gore) Noles in front of Noles Store (built in 1925) on Frolona Road at the intersection of Old Tennessee Rd and Walnut Hill Rd. The store sold groceries, material for making clothes, some ready made garments, kerosene, oil, coal, gasoline, farming tools, and canning supplies. Added in 1934 was the area post office inside the store. Also, it was used as a place for the local residents to vote until 1978. When Frank Noles retired, Guy Foster Noles took over the operation of the business with his wife Laura Arrington Noles. Laura Arrington Noles served as postmaster until the post office closed in 1956. The Noles Store closed in the late 1960's.

Walt Wilson-Professional Baseball Player from Heard County, Georgia. In 1938, Walt Wilson went professional in the Southern League with Little Rock, a farm club for the Boston Red Sox. He went on to play with several other teams including the Detroit Tigers. The Detroit Tigers bought his contract in 1945. He started out as a relief pitcher in a Detroit opener, against the Cleveland Indians, "Stubby" Overmire started and Walt relieved him in the 3rd inning. The headlines the next day in the Detroit Free Press said, "Glenn, Georgia Cotton Farmer Makes Good In The Big Leagues". By 1948, Walt Wilson had retired from professional baseball and returned to the community of Glenn with his wife, Julie.

With heavy hearts we share the passing of Lela Whitley Craft (10/21/1927-4/8/2026). Lela was a driving force in the continuing development of the Heard County Historical Center and Museum. Lela worked at the museum from 1992-2004. Her vast knowledge of Heard County and the families that settled here became a contagious passion to all she met. Lela, your touches are all around us as we continue to share your passion for genealogy.

Working at the Old Jail Museum in Franklin, GA is not a job, it's an adventure. I found this jewel stored at the museum this morning. After catching my breath from the excitement, he quickly became the focal point over the mantel in the office. This stunning oil painting was painted by Junie Wyatt "Bud" Jones in 1983. Mr. Jones resided in Franklin, GA until his death in 2004. Can you name the gentleman in oil portrait? Clues: I was the principal author of the Declaration of Independence (1776). I was the third U. S. President from 1801-1809. I was also the founder of the University of Virginia. Who am I?
