We had a wonderful time participating in the 2026 CommonSpirit Health Beef Empire Days Parade! 🦬❤️

A big thank you to the Finney County Convention and Visitors Bureau - Garden City, Kansas crew for all the work they put into making this event happen.

This year’s theme, “USA: Built on Beef,” feels especially meaningful here in southwest Kansas. Our community has been shaped by beef, agriculture, hard work, and people who show up for one another.

And as Red Dog Children’s Museum prepares to begin renovations on our future home, we’re reminded that this building is being built by this community — and for this community.

Thank you for believing in us and walking alongside us on this journey.

We’ll be at Stevens Park this coming week as part of the Beef Empire Days festivities!

HEADS UP! We're kicking our roaming museum season off TODAY with the Beef Empire Days Parade at 10 AM (be looking out for posts on that)!

And mark your calendars for THIS WEDNESDAY as the celebration of the Beef Industry continues with Finney County Farm Bureau Association & TFI: The Family Initiative's "Little Buckaroo Roundup" which will be from 5-7 PM at Steven's Park and will be an opportunity for families to share an evening of fun together while learning more about agriculture and the beef industry. Red Dog Children's Museum will have our agricultural exhibits, courtesy of The J***y Cow & American Implement available for youngsters to learn through play!

We want to give a special shout out to Home Range Clean Power for making it possible for us to be at events such as this this year! We appreciate your support!

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer—it is a day of gratitude, reflection, and remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice so future generations could live, learn, dream, and grow in freedom.

At Red Dog Children’s Museum, we’re especially thankful for the families who carry the legacy of service forward each day. One meaningful way to honor Memorial Day with children is by sharing stories of courage, visiting a local memorial, attending a community ceremony, or taking a quiet moment to reflect on the meaning of service and sacrifice together.

We remember. We honor. We thank them. 🇺🦬❤️

Happy International Museum Day! 🌍✨

This year, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) celebrates its 80th anniversary with the 2026 International Museum Day theme: “Museums Uniting a Divided World.”

In a time when communities can often feel fragmented or disconnected, museums serve as bridges—bringing together people of different cultures, backgrounds, generations, and perspectives through shared learning, creativity, history, and play.

Children’s museums, especially, are places where curiosity is encouraged, imagination is celebrated, and learning happens through hands-on exploration. They are spaces where kids and families can create, experiment, problem-solve, and connect with one another in meaningful ways. This year’s theme highlights the important role museums play in fostering inclusion, peacebuilding, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding across the globe.

At Red Dog Children’s Museum, we believe even the smallest moments of discovery can help connect people and build empathy. Through hands-on experiences, creativity, storytelling, and play, we’re proud to help bring families and communities together across Southwest Kansas. 🦬❤️

Ways to celebrate with your family today:
🎨 Create your own “mini museum” at home with favorite treasures or collections
📚 Share family stories and traditions across generations
🌎 Learn about another culture, language, or country together
🔬 Explore a hands-on science or art activity as a family
🦬 Visit a local museum, historical site, or community event

Here’s to curiosity, connection, and the power of museums to bring people together. Happy Intern

🌍👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 International Day of Families — May 15 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🌍

Did you know the United Nations created the International Day of Families in 1993 to recognize the vital role families play in every culture and community around the world?

This year’s observance highlights how strong family support systems help reduce inequality, improve child wellbeing, and create healthier communities for future generations. Around the world, leaders and organizations are sharing ideas and good practices that support families — including parental leave, affordable early childhood education, child benefits, and community-based family services.

The day also encourages conversations about how investing in children and families helps strengthen society as a whole. At Red Dog Children’s Museum, that message deeply resonates with us. We believe children thrive when families have opportunities to learn, play, grow, and connect together.

Families are often where children first learn:
❤️ Kindness
🧠 Problem-solving
🎨 Creativity
🌱 Confidence
🤝 Community

And families come in many different shapes and sizes — every one of them matters.

Looking for ways to celebrate together?

🎨 Creative Crafts & Learning
• Design a Family Tree using drawings, paint, or sticky notes
• Make handprint art with every family member
• Create paper houses or greeting cards for relatives
• Explore your family heritage by cooking a traditional meal together
• Learn about another culture through music, art, or crafts

🏡 Interactive Family Fun
• Set up a backyard obstacle course
• Host a family board game or “Minute to Win It” night
• Look through old photo albums and share favorite memories
• Start a family scrapbook or digital memory album

🌳 Community Fun Around Garden City

Sometimes the most meaningful moments aren’t the biggest ones — they’re simply the moments spent together.

Thank you for helping make Southwest Kansas a place full of connection, curiosity, compassion, and community. 🦬❤️

The Gentle Genius of Fred Rogers

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re highlighting Fred Rogers—a quiet but powerful voice who helped generations of children understand their feelings. His message still resonates today: every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued just as they are—and that kind of understanding starts with simple moments of listening and connection.

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re highlighting a voice who helped generations of children understand their feelings in healthy, meaningful ways.

Have you or your child ever been told you/they were "too sensitive"?

For Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re highlighting the documentary "Sensitive: The Untold Story" — a thoughtful exploration of what it means to experience the world deeply. Featuring Alanis Morissette alongside researchers and mental health experts, the film examines the trait of high sensitivity and reminds us that emotional depth, empathy, intuition, and compassion are not weaknesses — they are human strengths.

The documentary encourages greater understanding for those who may feel overwhelmed by loud, fast-paced, or emotionally intense environments, while also celebrating the creativity and connection that sensitivity can bring to the world. During Mental Health Awareness Month, it serves as a meaningful reminder that caring for emotional wellbeing also means making space for different ways people experience life. 💚
