Imagine your first steps inside Red Dog Children’s Museum…

The welcome area is taking shape, and beyond the new framing lies a space full of possibilities for play and discovery. There’s still plenty to do, but we’re starting to see the museum through a future visitor’s eyes.

Come see us from 11AM - 3 PM Saturday and say hi (and get some candy) as we will be participating in this trunk or treat with the Finney County Public Library!

ALSO - please join us in congratulating them on being the Healthcare/Nonprofit category winner in the Kansas Department of Commerce's 2026 To The Stars: Kansas Business Awards! Congrats to Pam & her amazing team!

Our local nonprofits do some pretty amazing things, and we are honored to be a part of this incredible community!

The Finney County Public Library is hosting our annual Halloween Extravaganza. It will be held on October 31st from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. If a business would like to participate and partner with us, we will provide a table and a parking space for you to decorate. You are welcome to bring an activity or game for children to enjoy, and we ask that participating organizations also bring candy to hand out. Quick family getaway to Colorado—and an obligatory stop at Red Dog Coffee & Cafe in Manitou Springs! 😄 Highly recommend the coffee and baked goods!

Kindred spirits: we’re both Red Dogs with mascots that need explaining. Ours? A baby bison. Theirs? A cat… “just to be funny.” 😂

❤️ Happy Make a Difference Day!

Children don’t have to wait until they’re grown to make a difference. Inviting someone to play, helping a neighbor, or sharing what they have can mean so much.

At Red Dog Children’s Museum, we believe learning through play includes learning how to care for one another. And that starts with the everyday kindness children see in us.

Try this together: Ask your child, “Who could use a little help today?” Then choose something you can do together—pick up litter, collect food to donate, or make a card for someone who could use encouragement.

To everyone who gives their time, talents, and support to Red Dog: thank you for helping us bring hands-on learning to children across southwest Kansas. ❤️

🧡 “Want to play with us?”

A small invitation can make a big difference to a child who feels left out.

This Unity Day, we’re celebrating kindness, acceptance, and inclusion—the everyday choices that help prevent bullying and make children feel they belong.

At Red Dog Children’s Museum, we believe every child deserves to feel welcome, valued, and free to be themselves.

Wear orange today and talk with your child about one way to include someone: invite them into a game, sit beside them, or ask about something they enjoy.

Sometimes, belonging begins with someone making room. 🧡

We became an offical 501(c)(3) on this day in 2022!

We started with an idea and took it on the road: bring hands-on play and discovery to children across Southwest Kansas. Now, alongside our roaming museum, we’re building a permanent place for that curiosity to grow.

October 16 is World Food Day!

Food connects us—to the people who grow it, the traditions we share, and the neighbors gathered around our tables.

Here in southwest Kansas, we see the work that goes into producing food. World Food Day also reminds us that every family deserves access to nourishing meals.

For children, food can be a starting point for discovery. Where did this apple grow? How does wheat become bread? Why does your family make a certain dish for special occasions?

Try it together: Pick one ingredient from tonight’s meal and trace its journey to your plate. Talk about the people who helped it get there—from farmers and truck drivers to grocery workers and cooks.

At Red Dog Children’s Museum, we believe learning about our world includes learning how to care for one another. If you’re able, consider supporting a local food pantry and helping a neighbor put a meal on the table.

🧼👐 October 15 is Global Handwashing Day!

Between digging in the dirt, creating something messy, and sitting down for a snack, there’s an important little habit to practice: washing our hands.

At Red Dog Children’s Museum, we believe discovery and caring for one another go hand in hand. Learning to wash with soap and water helps children take care of themselves and the people around them.

Make it playful: Sing a song for 20 seconds while scrubbing palms, the backs of hands, between fingers, and around fingernails. Then rinse and dry!

It’s a small routine children can learn together—and carry with them every day. ❤️

Turn everyday supplies into a wind-powered leaf racer! Kids can build, make predictions, and tweak their designs—then challenge the family to a race.

🌾 October 12 is National Farmers Day!

Here in Southwest Kansas, agriculture is part of our everyday lives—from the fields outside our towns to the food on our tables.

Today, we thank the farmers and farm families whose hard work, care, and perseverance help feed our communities and the world.

At Red Dog Children’s Museum, we see agriculture as a wonderful starting point for discovery. How does a seed grow? What do animals need to thrive? How does grain get from a field to our food?

These questions connect children to the people, science, and work behind things they encounter every day.

Celebrate with your child: Thank a farmer, talk about where a favorite food comes from, or look for signs of harvest on your next drive.

To our farming neighbors: Thank you for all you grow and all you give.
