It's another Frontier Friday, where we spotlight a Goliad building. We're looking at the Fannin Street United Methodist Church, founded by former slaves in 1872. Originally named the Methodist Episcopal Church the building at one time was located on Horseshoe Bend before moving to its current location after 1886. In 1902 the Goliad tornado that killed 114 people included 50 of the church's parishioners and the destruction of the building which was rebuilt in 1903. The church today continues to be an active part of the community and will celebrate its 154th anniversary in September.

Our True Crime this Thursday is notorious outlaw John Wesley Hardin. Known for a string of murders all across the south including former Goliad County Deputy Sheriff Jack Helm in 1873. By the time of his arrest at the age of 23, Hardin claimed to have killed 42 men. While exaggerated he was known to have killed at least 20 times including multiple members of law enforcement. In 1877 he was sentenced to 24 years in prison, where he got his law degree before being released in 1894. Within a year he was murdered in an El Paso bar by a fellow outlaw. Have you ever heard of this man?
