It’s time to vote early! https://ncearlyvoting.com/ Here in NC, I have always been able to vote early in every general election since I became registered here specifically for the primary in 2012 during law school. I voted absentee in 2008 when I was studying abroad in Venice, Italy, and that was my only experience with previously requesting an absentee ballot. My husband Nemat and I filled out our ballots at home with each other as witnesses, and I dropped them off at the board of elections in downtown Greensboro. I did not have to wait at all at 9:15 after daycare drop off last week, the early voters were on the left and the ballot drop off was on the right. I handed them to a person and filled out a log to say I was authorized to drop off the ballot for my spouse, and they gave me our Voted Early stickers! This has been the first time my parents have been able to vote early in SC, and this will be their last election before living in NC full time. My dad, Mike Duncan, reported a 45 minute wait last week at his Parklane Rd location at 2:30 pm, and he was able to vote for his friend James Shadd for School Board in Richland School District 2. Early voting is so important for this election! At this point, voting by mail is not recommended for your ballot to be on time. You can still drop off your ballots at any early voting location or vote early in person through Saturday, October 31. The local elections in NC are especially important for lawyers because we elect the judges we will be in front of to advocate for our clients. I have known many of the judges on our ballot since some were lawyers and others have been judges since I interned at the public defender in 2012 so feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
