🚗 From Hooves to Horsepower! 🐴

Come enjoy the 2026 Rock ’N Roll Cruise-In with us on Saturday, September 19!

While classic cars line North Main Street, come over to the Greene County History Museum to explore transportation from an earlier time. We will have historic carriages and wagons on display, along with photographs showing Downtown Greensboro’s roads before automobiles—and when the first cars began appearing in town.

It is the perfect way to travel through Greensboro’s history, from hooves to horsepower!

Located near Union Point, Bethesda Baptist is the oldest church congregation in Greene started in 1785 prior to our county being carved out of Washington-Wilkes County. Originally Whatley's Mill, the current brick structure wasn't completed until 1818. The church is still active.

Bethesda Baptist is one of the iconic rural churches of Georgia and one of the greatest extant examples of vernacular Federal architecture in the state. The congregation traces its origins to 1785,…

Did you know there is over 10,000 yrs of history in Greene County? The Native Americans inhabited the area before settlers arrived. The Muscogee Creek had a major trading path through the county and there was a mound culture prevalent in the area that has mostly been covered by Lake Oconee. Oh and De Soto came through.

The Fauche House.

Pictured here is the oldest structure in Greensboro. Currently serving as the McCommon's Funeral Home, this home was originally constructed for Jonas Fauche in 1799. Fauche, originally from France fought in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. Major Fauche was considered an American patriot and was given land in what is now Greensboro for his service. Major Fauche was instrumental in protecting early settlers from the native Creeks. He is buried in Greensboro Cemetery.

The Fauche Map, made shortly before 1793. Elijah Clark, a Revolutionary War Hero, was already working on forts to protect white settlers from Native American raids. Fauche recommended 12 be built. Signs can still be seen along the Oconee. Stop by the Greene County Museum to see original maps.

One of Greensboro's earliest settlers was a Revolutionary War Hero. Read more here then visit his grave and marker in the Greensboro Cemetery or his house, now Mccommons Funeral Home.
