⚓ Step back into Outer Banks history!
The Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station’s Breeches Buoy Drill returns this Thursday — a powerful look at the bravery that once protected our coast. Who’s going? 🌊

Breeches Buoy Reenactment
You don't want to miss this! The first drill for the season will be held this Thursday, May 21st at 1:30 pm with a presentation by Carl Smith, Ret. CMDR USCG on the side porch of Chicamacomico's 1911 Station. Then at 2:00 pm our surfmen will perform the drill in the field behind the 1874 station.
Our men will be wearing plain clothes for this first drill as it is a training session for our new volunteer surfmen.

Did you know?
Hope Plantation was built in 1803 by former North Carolina Governor and U.S. Senator David Stone and is considered one of the finest examples of Federal-style Palladian architecture in the South. The plantation also includes the historic King-Bazemore House, dating back to 1763, making the site a rare glimpse into early North Carolina history. 

Today, visitors can explore restored homes, gardens, museum exhibits, guided tours, and educational programs that bring the Roanoke-Chowan region’s 18th and 19th-century heritage to life.

Today marks the final day of the North Carolina Potato Festival in Elizabeth City! 🇺🇸🥔

As our nation gathers in prayer and gratitude to dedicate our country back to God, communities everywhere are coming together to celebrate faith, freedom, family, music, and fellowship.

Flags are waving, music is playing, and delicious North Carolina potatoes are being enjoyed all day long! What a beautiful reminder that even the simple things — good food, good people, and grateful hearts — bring us together.

Did You Know? 🌿

Long before North Carolina officially existed, George Durant became one of the first settlers in the Albemarle region after purchasing land from the Yeopim people in 1661. His deed is recognized as the oldest recorded deed in North Carolina history. Today, Durant’s Neck in Perquimans County still carries his name and legacy along the historic Albemarle region.
