The Great Commission
Matthew 28:16-20

“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing in the name of Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” The gospel today reminds us of one of the most exciting mandates Jesus gives us, to go and spread the good news! Ushering everyone we meet, in every nation into an encounter with the living God is part of what we were created to do! Today we not only remember this important direction from Jesus, but we are also reminded of the most beautiful reality, that He is ALWAYS with us, to the end of the age. Our prayer as a community and as a family is that in everything we do, we are leading others into the gospel of truth and love, making disciples of nations for the Kingdom of God and above all, our prayer is that we always remember that He is with us. When we remember His presence, we give it the honor and cherishment it deserves, and because He is always with us, we are empowered as His children to change nations.

The Promise of the Holy Spirit
John 16:5-11

In today’s gospel we hear Jesus’ words to His disciples explaining that He can no longer walk with them, but that He is sending another; His advocate, the Holy Spirit! The Holy Spirit, which manifests the intense love between the Father and the Son, is being sent upon humanity so that we may walk with Jesus through the power and love of His Spirit. We hear Jesus explain that the Holy Spirit will come to convict hearts and we know this is true because our hearts are only turned toward Jesus and toward repentance when we are met with the kindness and love of God. This is who the Holy Spirit is! The gift of the Holy Spirit is very important for Christians today, and a relationship with Him can radically change our lives! The Holy Spirit not only convicts our hearts encouraging us to become more like Jesus, but He also walks with us teaching and empowering us to live a life similar to Jesus’. Jesus we thank you for the gift of your Holy Spirit, we ask that you would give us the ability to walk closely to Him, listening to His guidance and falling into deeper friendship with the Trinity through the wisdom and love of your Spirit.

Sea of Galilee

What was He like? The beat of His steps, the catch of His gaze, His laugh. His heart, it was poured out here. You watched Him build family on your soil. What did He dream of when He stood here, and soaked in the last bit of your light? I felt Him, in the thickness of your slow breeze. You know Him best and your wisdom is rich Galilee, you inevitably ooze His likeness. I’m listening; so tell me, what was He like? He walked upon your waters, calming them, to this day they know His name and still sway to the sound of His voice. There is no inch of this sea that wouldn’t point you to Him, exuding His warmth and kindness. Deep friendship is found here, in the heart of Galilee, the kind of friendship that reminds you to take deep breaths, and the kind that embraces you forgetting all of your wrongs. The remaining bit of the sun sets extra slow along these shores, as to be sure of soaking in every last second of His abiding presence.

“Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed”

What is the truth? In doubt, in uncertainty, in lack of control, in times of suffering, what is the truth? It is so easy to relate to Thomas during this time in our world. Not being able to believe that Jesus had risen and is alive just like He promised, unless seeing and feeling the physical wounds himself. For us, It can also become difficult to have faith, trust, and to remember that He is always with us and that He is in control but the truth is that Jesus IS always with us! He ALWAYS fulfills His promises. Jesus is merciful and alive, He is in control and He is so trustworthy. The truth is that He has never left us, and we are encouraged by His word to believe this without seeing. What a beautiful invitation into faith! The best news about this, is that truth is unchanging, solid, and sets us free. Through the sacrifice of Jesus and in relationship with Him we have access to be set free from fear and control and instead we can step into fully trusting Him, which leads us into a life of peace and joy! Jesus, even when we lack faith, and desire to control, help us to hold tight to your promises and accept the peace and joy that you offer us, through trusting in you every day of our lives.

What does it mean to “bear fruit”? As christians, and followers of Jesus we were created to be fruitful. There are many examples of this mandate in Scripture, where Jesus tells us that we are chosen and appointed to bear fruit, and not only much fruit but fruit that lasts. But what does this mean?
The Tuesday of Holy Week reminds us of the Fig tree in the book of Matthew, where Jesus and the disciples approach the tree, looking for fruit but find that this tree is fruitless. Jesus uses this tree to testify to one thing; this tree was using soil and taking up the ground space, yet not bearing any fruit. How many times, as christians do we do things out of “habit” or without the conscious mindset of loving God and others; like praying, going to church, or even the way we live. We are taking up ground space, but bearing no fruit. To “bear fruit” in our lives, means walking in real virtue and love, which can only come from intimate relationship with Jesus. Bearing fruit means that when people experience or taste our lives, that it closely resembles Jesus.
As we prepare our hearts for the coming of Good Friday and Easter Sunday, let us pray that through close relationship with the victorious King, we may bear fruit in our lives that is lasting and tastes like Jesus!

God's Word tells us that the people of Jerusalem cut palm branches, waved them in the air, and laid them out on the ground before Jesus as He rode into the city. The palm branch represented goodness, victory and honor. These palms were symbolic of the final victory He would soon claim over sin and death, yet they also officially began His journey toward betrayal and the cross.
The Holy City was facing much turmoil, conflict and confusion, yet the people spoke from their hearts saying “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
Proclaiming that Jesus was King, and treating Him as such even during difficult and confusing times.
In this Holy Week, may God direct our thoughts and attention towards what matters most, proclaiming Jesus Christ as our King… Let's choose to focus on worshipping our Lord, thanking Him for the gift of His sacrifice, celebrating the power of the Resurrection, and rejoicing in the new life that is found in His victory! Jesus you are our King!

Happy Palm Sunday, from all of us at Pilgrim Artworks!

Upon the ground where His feet stood, the waters where He gathered, and the rocks He climbed, there is light. A light that reminds us of His presence that never leaves us. In times like these, we remember God’s promise to us, that His love is steadfast, that He is our comfort and that He is good even in the midst of dark storms.
Psalm 23 says “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil. For you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me.”

Jesus is the good shepherd, and we can have confidence that we are protected because He is always with us, and He who is good and never changing will guide us through any storm that may pass. We no longer have to fear, because we are in the arms of the good shepherd.

Prayers from all of us at Pilgrim Artworks to you and your family during this time.

What Is the Western Wall?

The Kotel Ma’aravi (“Western Wall” in Hebrew) is situated in the Old City of Jerusalem. It is the most hallowed site in Judaism, a place for constant prayer, meditation, inspiration, and pilgrimage.

Because of its nearness to the site of the Temple, the Kotel has become the most holy spot in Jewish religious and national consciousness. Every day thousands come to pray, and insert written prayers into the crevices of the wall. Twice a year the little prayer slips are removed, bundled up in little bags (unread), and buried in the cemetery on the Mount of Olives.
