Another "STAMPEDE", James Drury, as the Virginian found its way to a young lady in Kentucky. A great gift for a graduation form College. James would sure be proud, all of these bronzes have gone to his fans.

THROUWBACK THURSDAY.....a while ago.

Watching Over Texas, TThe Texas Rangers
In 1821 impresario Stephen F. Austin brought the first Anglo-American settlers to the land that would soon be called “Texas.” From the beginning the small colony was subject to constant attacks by hostile Indians who attempted to drive the settlers out of their new home.

In an effort to protect their families, a few of Austin’s best men took-up arms and voluntarily rode when and where they were needed. These unofficial volunteers were the genesis of what two years later would become one of the most legendary organizations the world has ever known.

Then in May 1823, Mexican Governor Jose Felix Trespalacios of the province of Coahuila `y Tejas officially authorized ten men under Lt. Moses Morrison to protect settlers along the Colorado and Brazos Rivers as officers of the Mexican government.
Three months later, the Father of Texas dipped the nib of his quill pen into his ink well, turned over a piece of parchment that had a land grant written on it by Land Commissioner Baron de Bastrop, and began to write the words that would officially establish the Texas Rangers:

"I therefore by this presence give public notice that I will employ ten men in addition to those employed by the government to act as Rangers for the common defense." Stephen F. Austin August 5, 1823

Thus, was officially born the greatest and oldest law enforcement agency with statewide jurisdiction in the United States-The Texas Rangers. Rangers have now been watching over Texas for almost 200 years. They will most certainly continue to do so long as there is a Texas.

This Ranger guards the great restaurant, TASTE OF TEXAS in Houston. Thank you, Nina and Edd Hendee.

THROW BACK THURSDAY....A few short years ago.

"UNDAUNTED COURAGE, SPIRIT OF THE PIONEER WOMAN"
"Standing on the rough plank porch of our little cabin, a gentle breeze stirs the evening scents of damp cedar and wildflowers.
My eyes search longingly, the distant horizon, as the sun, now a huge orange disc, slowly sinks into another, long prairie night".
Caroline King....Texas 1876

A Texas Senator contacted me asking if I had ever done a "Strong Texas Woman" in bronze, from the era of the Texas frontier. Happy to please her, I said no, but I have wanted to do something like that for a while. She never asked anything else, just to let her know when I had the bronze done, she wanted the Number 1 casting. Out of this call I put together a plan, borrowed a dress, from my Pard, Donny Hickmott, made by the lady that received an Oscar for her costume design for "Dances with Wolves" and it was a perfect fit for my model, wife, Caroline. The result was "Undaunted Courage, Spirit of the Pioneer Woman". The number 1 casting found it's home in the Senator's office in the Texas Capitol.

This bronze can be seen at Found Fine Art in Bastrop, Texas.

Remembering a few short years ago, I was fortunate to get to work with the great interior designer, Warren Sheets, out of San Francisco, with several relief pieces for wall hanging, plus the main event which was "RUNNING FREE". Three life-size horses all cast in stainless steel, running in a water fountain "creek" in the lobby of the new Fairmont Hotel in downtown Austin, Texas. A great organization, Warren Sheets Design, we enjoyed working with Warren and his great group of people.

We, lots of our friends, used to get together at my studio every two or 3 months, what was called a "Cowboys and Outlaws" gathering and lunch. Joe Bowman was our original "instigator", but he passed away, our buddy, James Drury was a regular for years along with both retired and active Texas Rangers. Then James passed away and the pandemic hit, and we just never did get the "gathering" back in session again. This photo is the last one that Jerry Nalls attended as well as James Drury. Just wanted to honor Jerry since he just crossed the river last night. We will sure miss him as he was great guy.

Monuments to America's Heritage

30+ Years Experience 60+ Monuments

It was 1989, just nine years into my new career pursuit, that of a professional artist, I was commissioned to create my first monumental size sculpture. It was to be a thirty foot tall bronze and granite sculpture for The ProRodeo Hall of Fame and Museum of the American Cowboy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was to be an "action portrait" of Rodeo Legend, Casey Tibbs on a famous bronc named Necktie, an enlargement of a small bronze I did for Casey in 1985. I also found out that Casey was battling terminal cancer at the time and the project had to be completed from maquette to monument in the miracle time of 140 days. Casey lived to enjoy the unveiling and dedication, but passed away a few months later. At the dedication, Casey’s first words to the huge crowd on hand was, “Thank you Edd Hayes for making me look good. Hell I was good!”.
