En esta ocasión quiero presentarles una obra que explora la memoria que cargamos incluso cuando creemos viajar ligeros. Cada pincelada revela cómo nuestras raíces, inevitables y persistentes, nos acompañan sin importar el destino.

"Esta obra fue donada en homenaje al apoyo brindado al arte saragurense durante la participación en la exposición Purik Sapikuna. Actualmente, la pieza se exhibe en las instalaciones del Centro Social Loja en Newark."

Reflection:

The more I travel, the greater the sense of belonging I feel to the world, rather than to my own land. This journey grants me a broad mindset that seems impossible for anyone else to understand. What a tragedy: while I believe I am gaining more, the truth is that it feels like losing myself. It is like exiting a cave; as one becomes more conscious of one's life, it only brings deeper sadness and pain, a life with no purpose, where all material things cease to make sense. The more I observe the world, the crazier it seems to become. The only thing that can make sense, the only thing that seems to understand me, the only thing I truly feel, is art.
When I received this piece, I quickly put on my gloves to open it. Opening an artwork feels like opening my own interior. I view this piece not as mere entertainment, but as a vessel to explore my own collective turbulence of being.
I view my culture as one of the few things that cannot be owned and only truly lives when it is shared—the only thing that makes sense in this world, where everything else can be consumed, monetized, or sold.s a source of comfort, but as an act of transfiguration. My culture feels like the last few reminiscences of my wounded being, a place I look back to remember who I am. I see my culture as one of the few things that cannot be owned and only truly lives when it is offered, the only thing that makes sense in this world where everything else can be consumed, monetized, or sold. I want to invest not only money, but my trust, attention, and overall, my love. I hope everyone gets the chance to travel and realize how beautiful Saraguro is.

🎨CHAKANA Una pintura que lo dice todo.

La artista Piwa organiza cada elemento de manera perfecta: en el centro lo sagrado, en los extremos los responsables de las festividades, representando los cuatro pachas. Esta obra de Pacari no es solo pintura, es la esencia de un pueblo, su cultura y su organización.
💫 Como en un póster de película, cada figura tiene un papel importante:
☀️ Arriba: el Markatayta con el sol en sus manos, recordando que originalmente esta celebración honraba al sol (Inti). Hoy, por el sincretismo religioso, muchos la asocian con el Niño Jesús.
🌙 Abajo: la Marcama con la luna (Killa), símbolo del equilibrio entre día y noche. Un recordatorio de cómo el sol y la luna mantienen la armonía en nuestra vida.
👶 En el centro: los wawas, representación del Kapak Pacha, toda nuestra sabiduría Saraguro. Aquí vemos a los Paileros, Aja Mayor, Wiki Mayor, Kari Sarawi, Warmi Sarawi, Osos y Ushkos.
🎶 A los lados: los músicos, pilares de la Navidad Saraguro, quienes con sus tonos y conocimiento dan vida a la celebración.

La Supalata descrita por James Belote “Hombres vestidos de blanco (ayanfaines) y mujeres saraguros llegan a algunas casas para realizar la ofrenda a la supalata. Se les brinda comida y luego bailan por un momento. Antes de partir, entregan a los dueños de casa semillas de calabaza y de maíz para que las planten en el año siguiente. Se dice que, si no se ofrece alimento a los visitantes o a la supalata, el shirán (una especie de maleza) se esparcirá en los maizales de la familia” (Belote, 1998, p. 237) Las cuatro figuras agrupadas en círculo, con sus cuerpos inclinados hacia adentro, evocan esa danza breve y efímera, lista para partir hacia la siguiente casa. El artista, al omitir horizonte o arquitectura, nos sitúa en un espacio liminal, suspendido entre la visita y la partida. la iconografía, singular y contundente, aparece en las cabezas cubiertas por zambos/calabazas (zamate), que funcionan como casco y emblema. Allí se revela el vínculo entre semilla y fruto: lo que se porta en la cabeza es, al mismo tiempo, lo que se siembra y se comparte. La obra de Roberth Lozano condensa la esencia de la reciprocidad hecha forma, equivalente al ranti-ranti: dar, recibir y devolver. Este ritual no es solo costumbre, es memoria viva donde podemos ver reflejados nuestro ayer, hoy y mañana.
