Friends of the CSS Neuse Museum (also known as the CSS Neuse Gunboat Association) is the official nonprofit support group for the CSS Neuse Museum. The CSS Neuse Gunboat Association, formally known as the CSS Neuse Restoration Committee Inc., is a private, non-profit, tax-exempt corporation whose purpose is to support the CSS Neuse State Historic Site’s development through fundraising, advocacy, v

olunteer support, programming, and membership. The organization was established in September 1976, as the CSS Neuse Restoration Committee, Inc., and they have seen many changes over the years within the local community and in their name. The group was initially created to support the CSS Neuse and Governor Caswell Memorial when they were together at one location. The CSS Neuse State Historic Site became the CSS Neuse Civil War Interpretive Center in 2015, when they reopened downtown.

Join us for all of our homeschool day programs for the 2025-2026 school year! After everyone registers, our team will put each student in a group for the field trip. Make sure you include the Co-op or group you would like to be with on the registration form. You can register for all the homeschool day programs now, or you can register each month.

Dates and Themes:
October 8- Espionage
November 5- NC Ironclads and Civil War Weapons
December 17- Victorian Christmas
January 8- Environmental Education
February 12- NC History
March 12- Women's History
April 16- NC Government

For each of these programs, staff from other NC Historic Sites, other State of NC agencies, volunteers, and nonprofit organizations will assist in creating engaging experiences for your homeschool student(s). We aim to include as many hands-on activities as possible. Most of our stations will last around twelve minutes, and families will have a chance to rotate through several stations. Some months, we will also feature a guest speaker, with additional details sent out before the program.

The cost is $2.00 plus tax per student. Beginning in October, adult admission will be free, but everyone will still need to register. Ages 3 and under are free.

Registration will close on the Monday before the event date, so we can organize groups and send out the list. We will reopen registration after each homeschool day program is finished.
If you have any questions, please email Rachel at [email protected].
