Happy Hour is back...but this time we are hitting the road and visiting Courtney and Ryan at their place, Blazing Star Prairie. The sun sets early in November so we will gather from 4-6 on Friday, November 7th.

Come see how they are working to restore several acres, as well as teach about the other native ecosystems found on the land, like woodlands and wetlands. In addition, we are excited to debut a special video project after the tour!

Their prairie is about 20 minutes from downtown Lawrence on 1111 Wild Horse Road.

Join us April 18th! Our affable ecologist, Courtney Masterson, returns with Native Lands to parade us around the prairie. In this quarterly series, Courtney shows us some of her favorite species and answers questions you may have about this ecosystem native to Kansas.

We burned the prairie in March, so it will be an especially interesting time to see what is emerging. Cocktails are provided by our spirited barkeep, Aly Bush.

Happy birthday to Carlos 🏁

How does someone become open to challenging thoughts and feelings? How do we remain open to them?

Maybe it’s in our roots.

In the stories of people from our past that didn’t always do what was expected.

Maybe it’s in the stories that we don’t hear. In a caregiver who can strike a balance between protecting and creating the space to think for yourself.

Maybe it’s in a classmate. Or a song.
Roots are all around us.

Growing your own- being firmly rooted in yourself- takes vigilance. It’s a marathon. 🏁

“Our feelings are our most genuine paths to knowledge. They are chaotic, sometimes painful, sometimes contradictory, but they come from deep within us. And we must key into those feelings. This is how new visions begin.” -Audre Lorde

Originally made to sit around the firepit- but- it's hot.

Heraclitus used fire as a metaphor to describe the ever changing nature of the universe.

To be vial is to be in motion.

In partnership with the University Press of Kansas, we welcome the authors of A New Guide to Kansas Mushrooms. Sherry Kay revised the original work penned by her late husband, Richard Kay, to reflect the considerable updates in mycology over the past 25 years. Benjamin Sikes and Caleb Morse helped update the guide, which includes nearly twice the number of species as the first edition - including common slime molds! Drinks provided by Free State Brewery.
