Painting became an important part of my life in 2023. It was the first time I had attempted to actually learn to paint (taught by an artist instructor), rather than just dabbling and experimenting on my own.
I dislike “before and after” storylines whereby it is made to highlight a transformation at the expense of the “before”. I appreciate looking in the rearview with curious and grateful eyes. When it comes to my development as an artist, I notice a change in my brushstrokes and ability to see values the most. What has remained consistent from the start of my journey to now is the satisfaction I feel as an image emerges and comes into focus in front of me. Sometimes it takes 2 hours, and other times it takes me 12, but the movement from a white space to one where a colorful scene exists is pretty cool. 🧑🏼‍🎨

There are special times when you finish a painting and you love it so much more than you expected when you began. This seeet witch is one of those projects for me. 🧹
She came to life in front of me on the easel! 🧡🖤

Sometimes I need a break away from a painting to let it marinade. The and time distance allow me to see with fresh eyes, often being able to hone in on just a couple tweaks that will make the painting more pleasing or successful. This is one of those pieces. And I am much happier with the outcome now!

Birthday present delivered to my sweet Spartan and he loved it! I have been glowing ever since seeing his reaction.
He knew I would be bringing the painting to campus this weekend and he sent this selfie of him in front of Beaumont Tower to show his excitement.
