As this week comes a close, we'd like to wish all a very Happy ! Here's this years batch of animal recreation photos! Everyone did great!

Zookeeping: it's so much fun getting to work with a favorite animal, or celebrating the birth of an endangered species, or training a new behavior, or just hanging out with the coolest coworkers (animal and human!) But it's also an incredibly difficult job, being very physically and mentally taxing. You can have your highest high, and lowest low, all on the same day. Saying a final goodbye to the animals you've worked tirelessly for never gets easier. We work weekends, holidays, and weird hours. We're professionals and conservationists that work a mostly thankless job for dirt cheap in sometimes awful conditions. But we wake up and show up day after day for the animals. We're the voice and advocates for the animals in our care, and for their wild counterparts. "Our quality of work is their quality of life."

Zookeepers are some of the most caring, resilient, dedicated, and toughest people I've ever met. There's so much more that I can't put into words about this career and the animal care professionals in it. I'm proud to be a part of this small community, and I stand with all of you. Happy National Zookeeper Week to my fellow zookeepers out there. You're the real MVPs.

Happy World Gorilla Day! Little Rock Zoo is home to 4 Western Lowland Gorillas: Alice, Kivu, Adelina, and Catherine.
originated 5 years ago on the 50th anniversary of the work of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, when Dian began her groundbreaking mountain gorilla research in the forests of Rwanda.
Plan a visit to LRZ and meet our troop!

Happy World Rhino Day! Little Rock Zoo is home to 3 Eastern Black Rhinos: Johari, Andazi, and Kevin! Kevin was born in November last year, and was an important birth for the zoo population.
is a day of awareness for all 5 rhino species and the work being done to save them. 3 of the 5 species of rhino are critically endangered, which means they could go extinct in our lifetime. Every year, AAZK chapters across the US raise funds for rhinos through Bowling For Rhinos. Over $260,000 was raised in 2021!

is today! It was created to promote a global system for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues.
There are 6 Tiger subspecies, and the Little Rock Zoo is home to 2 Malayan Tigers, Jaya and Asmara. Jaya was brought to LRZ back in February to breed with Asmara. Tigers are mostly solitary, except during breeding season. This picture is from when the two were introduced for breeding back in April.

It's and Selva the Bush Dog shows off hers! Bush Dogs are a small canid species found in South America. Something cool about these little dogs is they have webbed toes that allow them to swim!

Some of the great ape team celebrating together with Kashi and Berani! The team works with animals that are still susceptible to Covid-19, so they keep themselves and the animals healthy by frequently washing their hands and wearing masks. They also support each other by having lots of fun and bringing humor to their work day! Two of the great ape keepers made 2022 for them by joining the LRZ team, and we're glad to have them here!

A few ways some of the large hoofstock keepers celebrate is by focusing on enjoying themselves, both at work and home! Playing harmless pranks on fellow keepers makes for some good memories and builds camaraderie! Another fun thing is multiple keepers have gotten married this year, so congratulations to them!!
