๐Ÿชต HISTORICAL INGREDIENTS SERIES: FRANKINCENSE ๐Ÿชต

For thousands of years, frankincense has been worth its weight in history.

This fragrant resin traveled ancient trade routes from the Middle East across the Mediterranean and all the way to Imperial China, where it was known as Ru Xiang (ไนณ้ฆ™), meaning โ€œMilky Aromatic.โ€ The name refers to the pale, milky sap that emerges from the tree before hardening into fragrant golden tears.

In perfumery, frankincense is prized as a natural fixative, helping lighter scents linger while adding a warm, smoky, balsamic depth to a fragrance.

At The Scented Scribe, we use frankincense in several formulations, including Chapter II, Chapter III, and Chapter IV.

๐Ÿ“œ A little history, bottled.

The artwork featured here comes from the Bencao Pinhui Jingyao, a Ming Dynasty Chinese materia medica completed in 1505. It depicts the frankincense tree and the harvesting of its precious resin.

We're currently casting solid sterling silver Thor's Hammer pendants, based on archaeological examples from the Viking Age.

Each piece starts with inspiration from the historical record and ends up as a wearable piece of Viking history, handcrafted right here in our workshop. ๐Ÿช“โšก๏ธ

We're pretty excited about these, and we can't wait to get them out of the workshop and into the hands of some new owners!
