Marysville Museum & Gallery Montana Marysville Montana was made famous by Thomas Cruse in 1876. http://marysvillemontana.wordpress.com/ Brown gave Cruse one of his placer mine claims to work.

Thomas Cruse
Thomas (Tommy) Cruse was born in Cavan County, Ireland in the parish of Drum Lummon.
• 1856: At the age of 20 Cruse immigrated to the United States.
• 1863: Cruse was said to have caught “Gold Fever” and headed from New York to California.
• 1867: Cruse stopped briefly in Helena before making his way to Trinity Gulch (near Canyon Creek) where he tried out placer mining.
• 1868: Cruse landed himself in Silver City, where he made acquaintances with William Brown. While working the placer mine Cruse noticed that there was often quartz stuck to the gold in his pan. At this recollection Cruse became convinced that there was a “Mother Lode”. Cruse tried to get Brown to search for it, but Brown was not interested. Cruse found Quartz on the mountain, but did not locate the ledge of the Drumlummon until 1876 (some sources suggest he found the Drumlummon earlier, but could not develop it because of flooding).
• 1876: Cruse staked claim to the Drumlummon Mine
• 1876-1880: Cruse tunneled into the mountain about 500 feet through granite to reach his treasure. The first ore that was milled was in 1880

What a great year at the Marysville Museum. Visitors from all over the world, Continental Divide hikers, Harley Bikers, even the Governor and first lady made an appearance. They made a nice donation for the Church. Power Townsend's, Louis Borwick Foundation, and so many others that made it possible to build new concession stands, install a handicap ramp at the church. The Pioneer Picnic and Golf Tournament fundraisers get better and better. Many great things were accomplished this year, big shout out to all the volunteers that made all the projects come together. I can't thank everyone enough for all their efforts, special thanks to Kathy Orsello made our visitors feel so welcome.
We are closed for the season, thanks to all.

Yes ghosts like to enjoy a little fun on the school grounds. As we were leaving for the day the one swing was moving and we didn't stage it either. Watched it for about 5 minutes, stop by the museum and we will tell you the rest of the story.

We are winding down for the year. As the cold weather returns we will be shutting down for the winter. Great gift ideas, Montana Paydirt, guaranteed gold in every bag, some bags have more than others. Harmonicas for around the fire, Montana maps, sweat shirts, Marysville History book, so much more. We will have a pot coffee on and maybe some homemade snacks. Only a couple weekends left. Fall colors are ramping up, see you this weekend.

Just finished the golf trophy, don't miss your time to shine.
All funds this year are for restoration projects for the Catholic Church.

I wanted to share a heart warming moment that happened today. A person in a wheelchair showed up to the museum and said he has been coming to Marysville for years but could never go to the Catholic Church. Because of the handicap ramp we had installed this year he was able to go into the church for the first time. That moment made everything we do so worth it. I want to thank everyone who helped make the ramp possible for everyone to enjoy. What a great day.

Can't see much outside, so why not come up to the museum and see what's going on inside. Learn some history about the mining days of Marysville, some great stories of days gone by. Open from 11am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.
