A fiery sunset lit up the sky just outside Moab. Moments earlier, the rain washed the desert clean, leaving the scent of earth in the air. As the storm moved on, the sun rays broke through the clouds, dancing across the red rock cliffs.

Reminding me that storms pass, but the light always finds its way back… Happy weekend everyone!

Backstory: So, this eagle scored a salmon and tried to bring it back to the nest, where its partner was on baby bird duty. Mid-flight, it attempted to drop the fish like a massive bomb—but it missed the nest by just a few inches, and the partner couldn’t catch it. Major dinner fail. The partner looked seriously unimpressed, and our clumsy hero promptly bailed. A few minutes later, it came back… carrying a stick. Yep, not dinner, but a stick. I’m guessing it was a peace offering—like, “Sorry, babe. I dropped dinner… but hey, look! Nice twig? 😁🤣

The breeding season in Florida is an important time for many birds. Great egrets undergo striking changes during this period. They develop long, delicate plumes called aigrettes that extend from their backs. These plumes were once highly sought after for fashion, leading to widespread hunting in the 19th century. Additionally, the area around their eyes (lores) turns a bright green or turquoise blue, contrasting with their white feathers.
