Wow! Time sure flies when you are having fun learning all about Collections Care!

We were thrilled to welcome our lovely participants this weekend for our inaugural Collections Care at Montpelier public program! We dove into Montpelier’s Decorative Arts Collections, the wild world of preventive conservation, looked at how we use the collections to tell the stories of Montpelier, had a specialty tour in the house, and learned how to handle historic artifacts! We love our new pink globe crew!

We are launching our first ever public program, giving a behind the scenes look at all the work we do!

Have you ever wondered about the backstories of the objects in a museum’s collection and the roles of those who steward the collection? How are the objects acquired, catalogued, and cared for? How are they used to curate the spaces in historic dwellings by sensitively balancing storytelling and practical preservation concerns? What happens to museum objects when they are not on display?

Learn the answers to these questions by joining the Montpelier Curatorial and Collections staff for an inaugural public program entitled “Collections Care at Montpelier”.

A gift in support of Montpelier’s Annual Fund contributes to our daily operational needs and helps support in our mission of preserving the legacy of James, Dolley, and the Enslaved Community.

Your gift helps our department continue our work in acquiring, researching, maintaining, and preserving the 4,500 objects in the Decorative Arts collection at Montpelier as well as the historic interiors!

The Nancy Woodson Spire Foundation Match of all new and increased unrestricted gifts up to $100,000 and a $500,000 match from The African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund of the National Trust for Historic Preservation to support a $1 million unrestricted investment in Montpelier, will match all new and increased unrestricted gifts 3:1.

24 people have generously donated over $15,600 in honor of GivingTuesday. Will you help us reach $25,000 by midnight?
