Christopher Burns - Fine Art Meet Chris
Hi, I’m Chris the ar-TEEST. As you might perceive, I’m not your typical artist. Who knows, maybe art will make me rich in the end. So….

I won’t bore you with a lengthy list of credentials and art related achievements because I have none. I’m just a guy that, as a kid, was above average in the artistic talent department and liked to draw stuff. I always liked art class in grammar school and junior high and was good at it. I never thought seriously about pursuing art as a profession because all I ever heard about artists back then w

as that they were likely to starve, and I found that unappealing. I figured that I could do the art thing as an old man after I got rich doing something else. Well at age 55, I am approaching decrepitude at an alarming rate and have been painting in my spare time more and more as the years tick by. I have managed to sell a few works and though I’m not as rich as I’d like to be, my home is getting cluttered with paintings so I figure it’s time to see if I can make a go at the artist thing. At any rate, I enjoy painting and look forward to improving as time marches on. On Art- You might be wondering “Why do you call your art lame, so-so, or fine? Are you that inconsistent or what?” To answer, in short, everyone is made and wired differently. We all think, do, and live differently. We like different things, colors, styles, shapes, and stuff when it comes to art-like stuff. As I look at various pieces of art, an opinion or feeling is formed in my head just like it forms in your head, but our opinions may not be the same. I may love it and you may hate it or vice versa and that is alright. There are what, 10 billion human opinions wandering about this giant rock and all of them are unique. It just seems pretentious for me to label my paintings as anything other than lame, so-so or fine. Who am I to tell you what to think? If you see a piece of my art that you can’t live without, I’d be happy to try and accommodate you. Life is fleeting, let’s all be happy while we can. Written by Chris who for the past forty years has worked in the nursey and landscaping profession.

It's taken me a few months to find the motivation to put paint to canvas. This 18x24 is inspired from our trip to Rocky Mountain NP last fall. We were lucky to catch the peak of both the fall colors and the elk rut. It was glorious. This view is near Sheep Lakes looking west up the Fall River drainage as the sun comes up.

Here's a collage of my larger works done in 2025. Hmmm, what shall I paint next?

Here is another painting that I have created of my grandparents' farm near Dorsey Illinois. It was a magical place for any grandkid to visit. Unfortunately, photos of this scene or many other scenes around that farm from the 70's and 80's don't exist. There are only fond memories of that place dancing around my mind, visiting me every now and again. This one is for my cousin, Mark.

I made a sign for an upcoming fall festival and other future events. I can hang a few paintings on it, it's 2'x4' tall.

Lately, I have been trying to paint small and quick. These are all 6"x8" paintings on canvas panels done mostly in one sitting. Am I on the right track?

There is a doe that lives on our farm who usually has her babies in the cow pasture each spring. One year, I had lawn mower trouble, and the grass grew over a foot tall in the front yard. You guessed it, she had her babies in the front yard. It has been a wait to get this one finished and today was the day. 16x20" acrylic on canvas.

I painted this summer scene for my sister, Ann. I titled it "Summer 1975" and it shows the view of my grandparent's farmstead from across the lake. My grandpa takes a breather at the picnic table with the ducks and looks out across the water as my sister, myself and my brother, Gary, make our way through the cow pasture down to the lake. Grandma Gee can be seen at the gate gently hollering "wait for me." I would have been almost 8, my brother 6, and my sister 12. Those were good old days....

There's a storm on the brew. "Arizona Storm" is a small 5"x7" painting that I entered in the Old Settler's Days of Hillsboro Art Show. I'm happy to report that it won Second Place in the adult realism painting category. Now I can say that I'm an award-winning artist.
