Commitment means doing what you said you would — whether someone’s watching or not.

It’s the student finishing their paper early, the professional meeting their deadline or the first responder showing up for their team.

Commitment builds trust, and trust is the foundation of true leadership.

👉 How do you practice commitment in your own life?

On June 17–18, 1965, during combat operations in B**g Son, Republic of Vietnam, Captain Paris D. Davis displayed extraordinary bravery and selflessness.

Commanding Detachment A-321, 5th Special Forces Group, he led a nighttime raid that struck a superior enemy force, eliminating nearly 100 Viet Cong soldiers. But when his unit was ambushed during the return, Captain Davis’ courage shone brightest.

Despite being wounded, he refused medical evacuation — time and again — while rallying his troops, directing fire and rescuing fellow soldiers under relentless enemy attack. He crossed open fields under heavy fire to save his immobilized team sergeant and later recovered another U.S. advisor thought to be lost.

Captain Davis did not leave the battlefield until every one of his men was accounted for. His valor, leadership and refusal to abandon his comrades exemplify the very highest traditions of military service. 🇺🇸

In the Central Highlands of Vietnam on April 14–15, 1972, Major John J. Duffy showed extraordinary courage. Already wounded, he refused evacuation, coordinated air support from exposed positions, moved the wounded to safety, organized a nighttime withdrawal under fire and remained behind to cover the movement—becoming the last man to leave after ensuring others were out. He even rendered aid aboard the extraction helicopter.

His story reflects the values the National Medal of Honor Center for Leadership preserves and teaches—character, integrity and the courage to act. Your support helps share these legacies and shape programs that prepare leaders to stand firm in their own defining moments.
