SPELLING MATTERS!

After years of construction, the $11 billion Long Island Rail Road terminal in Grand Central Terminal in NYC has opened—and commuters have already noticed a typo.
On one of the concourse walls, is an engraved quote from the great American artist Georgia O’Keefe:
“One can’t paint New York as it is, but rather as it is felt.”
A lovely sentiment. However, the painter’s surname is correctly spelled “O’Keeffe.”

TONIGHT AT CHRISTIES…Paul G. Allen. The co-founder of Microsoft, was characterized by his intellect and his relentless curiosity. He was an ocean explorer, a musician, the owner of two professional sports teams, a dedicated philanthropist and an avid art collector. Most avid. Mr. Allen built an art collection of incomparable quality, being offered TONIGHT and tomorrow as part of an historic auction at Christie’s New York. Entitled: Visionary: The Paul G. Allen Collection. All proceeds from the sale — valued at an unprecedented $1 billion — will be dedicated to philanthropy. My guess is that it will top $1.4B. From the trailblazing artists of the Renaissance to the Impressionists and their infamous Salon des Refusés. Connecting the lives and works of history’s most iconic artists, Mr. Allen created connections between visionaries and innovators across 500 years. ‘I was drawn to people who, like me, were eager to see what might come next and wanted to try to make it happen...I never stopped thinking in the future tense." Mr. Allen had a profound appreciation for the mechanisms through which we disseminate information, expressing feelings, all the while inviting us into the natural world and into the mind of the creator.Drawing from disciplines outside of the fine arts, Georges Seurat was influenced by the French chemist Michel-Eugène Chevreul, who asserted that color is affected by adjacent hues, With Pointillism, Seurat offered a counterpoint to the spontaneity of Impressionism. Nearly a hundred years after Seurat created a new language made up of fragmentary dots, so too did Jasper Johns create his own vocabulary, deconstructing our notion of colour and forcing us to reconsider what we assume to be true. Johns, abstracts the familiarity of digits leading us to consider an entirely new viewpoint. "I'm always looking for connections between different topics that aren't necessarily obvious, but that might help us see our world differently, or understand it better." Allen's collection celebrates those iconic visionaries who dared to push beyond the known, who like himself defied limitation.
