"Hope is what guides us to action, and I choose hope," Zoraida Santiago told audiences during her concert with Roy Brown at our theater. Backed by a tight-knit band of Puerto Rican musicians, Roy and Zoraida soared through a powerful selection of their songs, exploring themes of social justice, memory, and Puerto Rican orgullo with unapologetic conviction. Their joint performance closed with a stirring rendition of Oubao-Moin, moving the crowd to its feet as they sang to the poetry of Juan Antonio Corretjer.

It was a privilege to welcome acclaimed photographers Elliot & Erick Jiménez to the Hostos Art Gallery this past Thursday for a special lecture. The creatives behind TIME magazine's Bad Bunny photoshoot showcased their latest projects and guided students through their artistic process and themes, which draw from Afro-Cuban traditions, diasporic inheritance, and dual identity.

We also extend our thanks to Professor Ian Charles Scott for helping bring this conversation to the Hostos Community College community.

The Afro-Taíno futurist world of "Too Soon to Discover Planets, Too Late to Discover Islands" took shape at our theater this weekend, with a focus on the project's Part III. Following this visually striking performance, creators Orlando Hernández and The Knee-Heart Connection invited audiences into their creative process through a live post-show feedback and Q&A session.

Special thanks to the CUNY Dance Initiative for helping bring this unique tap dance-theater experience to Hostos Center. We can’t wait to welcome these performers back to our theater for their production's full premiere next year, so stay tuned for updates if you want to catch the piece in full.
