Art I Would Buy for...Christina Koch! 🚀

As an art advisor, these are pieces that I would love to show Christina for acquisition (after she returns from space, obviously). Some of them are literal and have to do with space in an obvious way, others are focused on environmental art by women who intertwine science and art in their process. ✨️

Christina has been such an incredible inspiration to so many girls and women this week. Woman can do ANYTHING! 🩷 What do you think about these pieces?

April 4, 2016 - Ten Years Ago Today 🤎

As a young business owner and art professional, people have asked me for years, "how long have you been doing this?" To which I reply, "I don't remember a time when I didn't."

This image is a testament to that, I remember this exhibition and the opening like it was yesterday. I helped install the show and we flagged down other artists to get their pieces in the show. It was our annual April Art Show that we had in High School.

These days, I don't create my own art as much -- but so much of what I do today is because of all the things I learned then. Managing artists, installing shows, inviting people to openings...it's such a privilege to call this my job and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Introducing: Art I Would've Bought For...JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy

As an art advisor, these are pieces that I would've proposed to them for acquisition. These pieces specifically are entirely 20th century works, with a minimal palette that would've fit into their minimalist NYC apartment. Drawing inspiration from his political career and her fashion career, these pieces touch upon history yet have a timeless quality to them. What do you think?

Exhibition Flashback Friday! 📷️

In November of 2023, we opened "Backdrops and Other Props," a solo exhibition by Allie Cabal. This exhibition comprised of Cabal's first substantial body of work and drew upon experiences she's had in the modeling world.

Using her own images as inspiration, all of the paintings served as a point of self-reflection for the artist, but for the industry as well, hinting at the glamorous and the unknown.

"What's your favorite piece in your collection?"

A question I get asked all of the time. People typically want me to say the one that is by the most famous artist or the one that is worth the most - but I wanted to answer that question with one of my favorite pieces.

Created by my best friend in 's classroom in 2016, yellow, is one of my favorite pieces, simply because every time I see it I'm transported back to our art class in our hometown. It's 2016 and we were still kids. I asked Court for this piece years later because it stuck in my mind & she had to get it out of her grandparent's house to bring it to me.

So all in all, one of my favorite pieces remains created by one of my favorite people in a place that changed our lives. ❤️

Fun fact about this piece:

A few years ago I was working in a collections department at a museum cataloging pieces that were offsite. I came across this Ingrid Bergman poster print in an office building and the people who had it said it was bound for the dumpster & no one in their office wanted it (no, it was not part of the museums collection).

Of course I took it immediately. Malmo is one of my favorite places in & the image of Bergman is a still from the movie Casablanca (which I was told was my grandparent's favorite movie? Can anyone in my family confirm?)

Anyways, this thing has followed me to countless apartments, sometimes I've hung it, sometimes it remains on the floor... but I love it & the story of how I found it even more.

That's sort of what collecting is -- finding pieces that in addition to having merit as art itself, that connect to you personally, while also being able to have a wonderful story behind it as to how you got it. ❤️
