Sunday Funday!…. Here is the big thing we have in the works which needed the large hoist! This will be our new flagship, and be finished out as a 17th/early 18th century Dutch Yacht. A few rough drafts of sail plans in the photos, we may use a large sprit sail or gaff (possibly with a square topsail) and jibs…or we may ketch/schooner rig her with 2 masts. Some changes will be the addition of streak along 3/4 of her topside, a raised stern with carvings and Leeboards. Her cabin will be reduced in length for more seating room and a small gundeck, and the cabin height will be reduced to below the added streak height. This project will take us a couple years, but hopefully she’ll be making appearances soon at naval events. Once finished she’ll measure around 35’ unspared length. A huge thank you to Thadd McClung of Trial by History for helping get her home, we could not have done this without the extra support. Thadd has taken ownership of our other vessel we had originally planned as a flagship, a 25’ Bateau and is in the process of finishing her for the Battle of Valcor 250th.

This half-pound naval swivel gun is from an American gunboat on Lake Champlain in 1776. This small artillery piece was part of the armament of one of the vessels in Benedict Arnold’s gunboat fleet built at Whitehall, New York. The gun was likely cast in Philadelphia. After the Battle of Valcour Island on October 11, 1776, the remaining American gunboats were burned at Arnold’s Bay, Vermont to prevent their capture by the British. This gun was found at Arnold’s Bay in the 1930s. It was on display at the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. Photo is by the web page author.

A faithful replica of Goto Predestinatsia (“The Providence of God”), the first Russian ship of the line, originally launched in 1700—symbolizing the birth of Russia’s naval power under Peter the Great.
