Long post! First: please go to spotify or your favorite streaming platform and listen to the latest release from Darren Garvey- No Love Is Wrong. https://open.spotify.com/artist/6tWBu5v2w9WEgReUdY6r9y
Then look at this. Darren is a phenomenal musician and I'm honored to say an old (!) friend whose friendship was re-upped when we unexpectedly ran into one another a bunch of years back at Main St. Fort Worth Art festival where I was exhibiting and the band he was with (Elephant Revival) happened to be playing. I recall a fantastic heartfelt conversation late into the evening about art and how to harness and carve intention within what felt like the confines of our abilities as artists in our crafts... with the added layer of being a parent.
And fast forward a bunch of years- Darren reached out last year to say he had a new song brewing and would I be willing to create something for it's release. I received the lyrics, stored them away, and we all went about the pandemic in our ways.
I started this particular piece at the beginning of the pandemic, with the intention of setting seeds of connection and love, feeling strongly that those are the things that will get us through this mess. There's a maternal love, a vast planetary love, ancestors helping in the background, a wide open door to invite love and connection and healing. It's one of my favorites from this past year +
A few months ago Darren contacted me to say that he finished the song, and do I have a piece for it? No. I didn't or couldn't force something, so he picked a few from my library that he felt would work. And then I listened to the song. And there she was. Somehow, this piece wasn't finished until the song hit it. It finally made sense. She's the love song sings, the ancestors are there to welcome everyone, the doors are wide open.
Thank you, Darren, for making a song that says things that need to be said out loud, we need to constantly say that love is love and it's the greatest force. I wish my dad could have heard this message as a young person.
I'm SO honored to be connected with this, the song is like a warm hug. The music soothes. I'm so glad it's out there. Go listen!
