Wurtsmith Air Museum Keeping Wurtsmith AFB and Aviation History of NE MI Alive! Open from May 16 - Sept 27, 2026

Details are posted on our website wurtsmithairmuseum.net

Wurtsmith Air Museum occupies three former fighter aircraft hangars at the Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport. These hangars are filled with a multitude of interesting artifacts from the first days of aviation through Desert Storm. The Wurtsmith AFB area is filled with pictures and memorabilia representing the base's rich history from 1953 to 1993. Planes on display include two T-33 Trainers, a CG-4 A glider, a 3/4 scale WWI Loehle SE-5A bi-plane, a restored L-19 Bird Dog. Children may sit in the small white plane and use their imagination to "fly". The gift shop has a wide variety of Wurtsmith-related items (including one-of-a-kind photo prints of WAFB aircraft), as well as other armed forces and local interest merchandise at very reasonable prices. We also create customizable dog tags on our 1947 Graphotype. The museum is open Fri, Sat, & Sun 11 AM-3pm from mid-May, Armed Forces' Day, through mid-Sept. Charges for admission are $7 for adults, $3 for children under 12 yrs. Children under 5 and active duty military with ID are free. The museum is accessible and wheelchairs are available. Wurtsmith Air Museum is a 501c3 organization completely managed by volunteers for the preservation of aviation history in NE Michigan and, specifically, Wurtsmith Air Force Base.

One of those days that validates all we do to preserve and promote our history. WAFB vet Scott Bower stumbled onto his own story while browsing the scrapbooks in our Wurtsmith Room. Scott’s first day of service at WAFB in 1990 was his dad’s last day of service after 20 years! Yes, that’s incredible!
