Earlier today, we announced an exciting new initiative to explore the historic battlefield as we prepare for the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Quibbletown in 2027.

AND WE ALREADY HAVE EXCITING NEWS!

We have connected with a professional archaeological organization specializing in historic battlefields!

Within the next week, we are planning a Zoom meeting with the organization's owner to explore the possibility of using modern archaeological technology to investigate portions of the battlefield.

Imagine what we might discover nearly 250 years after British and American forces clashed on this historic ground!

WHAT MYSTERIES LIE BENEATH OUR FEET?

The Battle of Quibbletown — 1777–2027

Imagine walking across a field in Piscataway, New Jersey, knowing that nearly 250 years ago, British and American soldiers marched and fought on this very ground.

What did they leave behind? What evidence of that historic struggle might still be waiting to be discovered?

🔎 AN EXCITING NEW ADVENTURE IN PISCATAWAY HISTORY!

As we prepare to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Quibbletown in 2027, the Piscataway Historical & Heritage Society is taking the first steps toward an exciting archaeological investigation.

We are exploring the possibility of working with professional battlefield archaeologists to survey portions of the historic landscape using modern technology, including ground-penetrating radar and other archaeological techniques.

Our hope is to discover whether remnants of the Revolutionary War still lie beneath the soil, waiting to tell their stories.

Our goal is to begin this investigation by spring 2027.

This project is still in its early planning stages, but imagine what we might learn about the people, the soldiers, and the events that helped shape our community and our nation.

History isn't always found in books or museums. Sometimes, it's right beneath our feet.

We invite our neighbors, history enthusiasts, and community members to follow us on this journey of exploration and discovery.

🇺🇸 WHAT SECRETS STILL LIE BENEATH THE BATTLEFIELD OF QUIBBLETOWN?

1777–2027 | 250 Years of History

Nearly 250 years ago, during the American Revolution, the land we know today as Piscataway, New Jersey, witnessed the movements and clashes of British and American forces.

But what evidence of those historic events might still be buried beneath our feet?

As we prepare to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Quibbletown in 2027, the Piscataway Historical & Heritage Society is exploring an exciting opportunity.

🔎 WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN ARCHAEOLOGIST OR ARCHAEOLOGICAL ORGANIZATION!

We are seeking professionals or organizations experienced in:

* Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) and subsurface scanning
* Battlefield archaeology and historical research
* Noninvasive archaeological surveys
* Identifying and documenting Revolutionary War artifacts

Our goal is to conduct an archaeological survey by spring 2027, subject to the necessary permissions, to better understand what traces of history may remain.

Perhaps there are stories beneath the soil that have been waiting nearly 250 years to be discovered.

THE ROAD TO THE BATTLE OF QUIBBLETOWN — 1777

250 Years Ago, History Was Unfolding Right Here in Piscataway!

Before the first shots were fired, before British soldiers marched toward Quibbletown, and before ordinary citizens found themselves caught in the struggle for independence, a remarkable story was already unfolding along the Raritan River.

New Brunswick. Buccleuch Mansion. Raritan Landing. Piscataway.

Four places connected by one extraordinary chapter of American history.

Beginning November 16, 2026, the Piscataway Historical & Heritage Society invites you on a journey back in time.

Through a special 12-part weekly series, The Road to the Battle of Quibbletown, we'll explore the people, places, and events that led to February 8, 1777 — a day when the American Revolution came to our own backyard.

We'll uncover stories of British occupation, divided loyalties, courageous resistance, and the families who lived through these uncertain times.

And the best part? Much of this history happened on roads and land we still travel today.

February 2027 — The 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Quibbletown.

🇺🇸 FROM BUCCLEUCH MANSION TO QUIBBLETOWN: A REVOLUTIONARY WAR CONNECTION

February 8, 1777 — Piscataway, New Jersey

Nearly 250 years ago, the roads connecting New Brunswick, Raritan Landing, and Piscataway witnessed a struggle that helped shape America’s fight for independence.

During the winter of 1776–1777, British troops occupied New Brunswick. Among the properties caught up in that occupation was Buccleuch Mansion, originally known as the Anthony White House, overlooking the Raritan River.

On February 8, 1777, British and German troops under General Charles Cornwallis marched from New Brunswick toward Quibbletown, seeking supplies in the surrounding countryside.

But American forces resisted, and the British expedition was forced to withdraw.

Today, Buccleuch Mansion still stands as a reminder of those turbulent months.

What makes this story remarkable is how closely our local communities were connected during the American Revolution. New Brunswick, Raritan Landing, and Piscataway were not isolated places. They were part of the same military landscape.

As we approach the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Quibbletown in February 2027, the Piscataway Historical & Heritage Society is working to bring these stories back to life.

And perhaps there are still stories waiting to be discovered.
