Here are three of the more unusual paintings I’ve made recently. I love the idea of starting with a prompt- usually it’s a lyric from a song that grabs my attention, but sometimes it comes from elsewhere.
1. Mysterious - this one came from the song Mysterious Love by Geese. At the time I was finding the whole process of abstraction to be a bit of a mystery. Still do!
2. Chili Dogs - this one came from my son’s relentless narratives about Sonic the Hedgehog. Apparently he eats a lot of chili dogs.
3. Honorable Mention - I have entered a lot of juried exhibitions and member exhibitions for various arts organizations. I have received many honorable mentions but never a first place award. 🤷‍♂️ it doesn’t bother me, I’m not very competitive (or maybe it does?)

The same day I finished this painting of The Clash’s incredible album Combat Rock, my wife Bridgette was going through some boxes and she said this cassette just “fell out” of something. Am I being haunted by the ghost of Joe Strummer?

This is an example of an idea that took a really long time to fully develop. My wife and I happened upon this scene back in 2015 while traveling in Italy. I’ve had the photo stored in my “painting ideas” folder since I started it in 2018. Slide 3 shows an abandoned attempt from 2020 and the second slide is my 8x10 study from last year. I’m glad I took a risk and allowed the final piece to become something more.

I finally finished up this demo of John Lennon today, love the way it came out. This was for a private lesson but I’m thinking of doing a workshop, maybe 3 sessions. Would you take this class?

One of the perks of running an art studio is that you can just set up a 24 hour personal art exhibit. We have a new show of local artwork opening Friday and I needed to fill the space temporarily. So come into 65 Main Street and check out my work until tomorrow!

Scenes from the blizz. What a wild few days it’s been! Still no power at home but we’ve been treated to a stay in a hotel and I’ve never been so grateful for a hot shower.
