Ross Island of Andaman and Nicobar as a sorrowful history.

In that island Pinal Colony was established in 1958 by the British Colonial Government of India primarily to jail a large number of Freedom Fighters from the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.

Archibald Blair wanted to establish the Penal Island in 1796, but failed due to malaria.

The first group of Prisoners were transported under the control of Dr James Patinson Walker of Calcutta. Once 8000 Freedom Fighters were shifted under this project and 3500 of them died due to sickness. The death ratio at that time was 700 per year, as the Doctor's Camp reported that only 45 of them out of 10000 survived from this fatal desease.

In 1893, after the opening of Cellular Jail(Kalapani) in Portblair, all the prisnors were shifted there.

The Ross Island was abandoned by british in 1945 due to an earthquake.

The Great Banyan Tree(Ficas benghalensis) which is more than 250 years old is located in Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Botanical Park(Botanical Garden) in Howrah Shibpur.

The height of this tree is 24 m or 79 ft. and the area occupied by the tree is 18,918sqmt or 4.67 acres. It's altitude is almost equivalent to the height of Gateway of INDIA.

It has at present 3,772 areal roots reaching down to the grounds as proper roots.

In 1864 and 1867 it survived two great cyclones and also survived Aila, Phani, Bulbul and some other cyclones.

Because of the cyclones of 1864 and 1867, the main trunk of this tree became diseased and in 1925 that trunk was cutted to keep the remaining tree healthy.

The tree also lost some of its sub trunks because of the cyclone Amphan in 2020.

Adisaptagram, a small town beside Bandel, Hooghly(Near Kolkata) has a great history itself.

It was founded and structured on 8th Century A.D as a port area by Palas and Senas on the lap of Saraswati river. It was used for their business purpose. That time it's name was Saptagram or Satgaon Port and it was the capital of Southern Bengal.

On 14th to 16th century when Sultanat era started in Bengal it became the main administrative center of Bengal.

On 18th century when the Saraswati river started to dry and lost her flow, the port was shifted to Kolkata on the bank of Hooghly river.

Vrindavan Das Thakur mentioned it's name on 'Chaitanya Bhagawat' and Manik Dutta mentioned Saptagram in 'Chandimangal Kavya'.

According to Bipradas Pipilai when the famous merchant Chand Sadagar goes for trading, his many of his ships passes through this port.

Also Ibn Battuta landad on India through this port town.

In the time period of Muhammad Bin Tughlak, Saptagram was one of the top three administrative centers in India.

The Alipore Zoo of Kolkata was situated in Barrackpore Cantonment near about 200 years ago. At that time it was world's fourth largest Zoo and Asia's first ever zoo and also the largest one.

In between 1802-1803 Governor General of India Richard Wellesley established this zoo in his summer home in Barrackpore Cantonment near Kolkata, which was surprisingly larger than the London Zoo.
Now because of natural calamities the remains of this are strewn here and there.

Now Govt of India prohibited this area for common people and the area belongs to a Police Training College. Currently this zone is named as Laat Bagan and the area is called as Barrackpore Chiriamore.
