Today's design reminder: one of the easiest ways to create a cohesive space is by paying attention to tone rather than theme.

A warm wood frame paired with warm wood floors, or artwork with cooler tones in a room that already leans cool, can instantly make a space feel more intentional.

Nothing has to match perfectly. Wood grains don't need to be identical, and neither do the colors throughout your room. Simply deciding whether your space feels predominantly warm or cool is a great place to start.

And don't be afraid to mix in the opposite tone here and there. A little contrast often adds the interest that makes a room feel complete.

Emerald and teal planes cascade across the surface, suggesting a submerged forest or the sweep of northern lights. Ridged, layered brushwork lifts feather-like forms that slope diagonally, while darker underlayers peek through like shadows beneath foliage. Patches of mottled turquoise break the rhythm, adding a powdered, almost mineral quality that contrasts with the sleeker, glossy sections.

Movement feels directional and urgent: angled marks push toward the upper right as if wind or current has shaped them. Light plays unevenly across the texture, catching on raised edges and leaving deeper areas matte and mysterious. The palette stays within cool tones, but shifts from deep viridian to vivid aquamarine create subtle temperature changes that keep the eye traveling.

Abstract yet suggestive, the piece invites multiple readings — kelp swaying below a surface, a cliff face streaked with lichen, or the flow of wind across grass. There’s a tactile presence; the surface seems to demand a closer look to appreciate its layered build and contrasts.

Suitable as a focal point, this work brings calm energy and depth to a living room, study, or reception area.

We’re taking a little holiday break to rest, recharge, and celebrate the hardworking people who help make our communities thrive.
