Giovanni Boldini. RITRATTO DI FRANCA FLORIO

Franca Florio fu una delle protagoniste della Belle epoque tra Palermo e Parigi. Moglie di Ignazio Florio, rampollo ed erede di una delle famiglie più influenti di Palermo, conosce Boldini nel 1901,a cui venne subito commissionato un suo ritratto. Era una donna indiscutibilmente bella, con una figura slanciata e una personalità brillante, che la rendeva protagonista degli ambienti mondani del tempo.
Boldini la rappresenta con il corpo che poggia sull'anca destra e con un atteggiamento voluttuoso, tipico delle sue rappresentazioni più sensuali. Il ritratto, però, risulta troppo provocante agli occhi del marito, che pretende una nuova tela, più adatta a rappresentare la "Regina di Palermo". Il nuovo ritratto viene realizzato nel 1903 con donna Franca vestita con un prezioso abito di pizzo nero.
L'artista tenne con sè la prima versione, che vendette al Barone Rotshschild, modificando la data di esecuzione in "1924".
