Redbone was a Native American rock band. They reached the Top 5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1974 with their single, "Come and Get Your Love". The single went certified Gold selling over a million copies. It also made Redbone the first Native American band to reach the top five on the Billboard Hot 100, with the song reaching number 5.[1] Redbone achieved hits with their singles "We Were All Wounded at Wounded Knee", "The Witch Queen of New Orleans", "Wovoka", and "Maggie" in the United States, although these singles were more successful overseas

Sally Black is among the most innovative weavers of traditional and pictorial sumac baskets. Born and raised on the eastern edge of Monument Valley, Utah she is known worldwide for her refined, clean designs and even weave. Today in 1941, Gordon Tootoosis was born. He was the grandson of Yellow Mud Blanket, who was the brother of Chief Poundmaker.
His father was Indigenous activist John Tootoosis and his sister was Jean Cuthand Goodwill, an Indigenous activist as well.
As a child, he was put into residential school where he was treated harshly and forbidden to speak his language.
After leaving the school, he devoted himself to social work and helping children and young offenders. He also became an accomplished Indigenous dancer & rodeo roper.
Tootoosis began his acting career in 1974 in Alien Thunder alongside Chief Dan George. His career slowly began to pick up throughout the 1980s.
His best-known role was as Albert Golo in 52 episodes of North of 60 in the 1990s. For his role as Albert, he received two Gemini nominations.
He appeared in several major films including Legends of the Fall & Pocahontas in the 1990s. He also had a regular role on MacGyver from 1988 to 1991. He won a Gemini Award for his role in Wapos Bay: The Series.
Tootoosis was a co-founder of the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company with Tantoo Cardinal.
Throughout his career, he offered to help, support, training and encouragement to aspiring Indigenous actors.
He received the Order of Canada in 2004. He died in Saskatoon on July 5, 2011.

On this beautiful fall Mountain Monday, the state of South Dakota reflects the year-round mission of Crazy Horse Memorial®: celebrating the beauty, significance, and enduring legacy of North American Indian cultures, traditions, and living heritage.

From many vantage points in the majestic Black Hills, you can glimpse the powerful stone gaze of Lakota Warrior Crazy Horse, a monumental tribute requested by Chief Henry Standing Bear and others. This incredible sculpture serves as a timeless reminder of the courage and contributions of great Native American heroes.

Today, take a moment to appreciate the unique beauty woven throughout humanity. While it may not be carved in granite, each of us can set an example that inspires the world.

TRADITIONAL EASTERN CHEROKEE:
There are East and West. The Eastern Cherokee is based in Cherokee, North Carolina and the Western Cherokee headquartered in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Meanwhile, the Hollywood heavyweight Wes Studi is a Western Cherokee. FYI, prior to the "Trail of Tears", there was no East or West, just Cherokees in North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama.
