🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride! This month is all about celebration, visibility, and love in all its forms, so what better time to spotlight a piece that turns a kiss into something eternal?

Meet Greg Climer (Greg Climer), chair of the fashion program at California College of the Arts and the artist behind "Animated Quilt Film."

Greg filmed his friends Nathan and Bryan sharing a kiss, then broke it down into 36 frames. Each frame became a quilt, pieced together from a bitmap of the digital film. Once stitched, the quilt was photographed again, turning it back into a, a five-second looped video that plays on endlessly.

It's a beautiful full-circle process, a fleeting moment between two people, made physical through fabric, then returned to the screen as something infinite.

✨ Celebrate SF Pride Week with us! Come see "Animated Quilt Film" and the rest of "Video Craft" on view at MCD through August 16. Tickets at the link in bio!

What if a film could make you feel fabric through a screen?

Meet Jodie Mack, an experimental animator who transforms everyday objects and materials into immersive film experiences.

In her piece “Blanket Statement #2, It's All or Nothing”, featured in the "Video Craft" exhibition, she films a thrifted blanket in extreme close-up, turning its texture into something you can almost feel through the screen. The sound of the blanket passing through a 16mm projector at 24 frames per second becomes part of the experience itself.

The result is hypnotic. Together, the tactile visuals and layered audio wrap the viewer in a trance-like state, as if held by the blanket.

✨Don’t just take our word for it, come experience it yourself! "Video Craft" is now on view at MCD through August 16. Tickets at the link below!

Meet Sydney Cash (Sydney Cash), an artist who found magic in an industrial glass called Flutex.

Working with Flutex since the 1980s, Cash is known for his geometric compositions that seem to shift, animate, and emerge into three dimensions as you move around them. By placing line drawings behind the textured glass, he challenges the way our brains process what each eye sees, creating mesmerizing visual effects.

The result? Artwork that feels less like a static object and more like a living encounter.

Come experience Sydney Cash’s "ADHD Party," alongside all 19 artists featured in "Video Craft." On view through August 16 at MCD.

Summer plans? Add "Video Craft" to your list!

Step into "Video Craft", MCD's current exhibition on view through August 16, where the moving image meets the handmade in unexpected ways. Featuring 19 artists across generations, the exhibition brings film, digital technology, and traditional craft media, including ceramics, textiles, and glass, into conversation.

Thought-provoking, visually rich, and fun, it is exactly the kind of experience that sets the tone for a great summer.

During your visit, let’s get creative at the MakeArt Lab. MCD has the perfect activity for making something together. With inspiration from "Video Craft", "Welcome to Weaving" invites visitors of all ages to pick up a hand loom, experiment with texture and pattern, and take home something made by their own hands. All materials and access to MakeArt Lab are included with museum admission.

Some nights leave an afterimage.
This was one of them. ✨

Last Saturday, MCD transformed for one night only: galleries glowing with "Video Craft", silent auction vignettes staged with furniture from Gary Hutton, playful brooch-making with multimedia artist Risa Iwasaki Culbertson, and an unforgettable dinner by Foxtail unfolding in a secret cinema just beyond the museum walls.

Every "Afterimage" ticket purchased and gift made helps MCD champion artists and build the intimate, responsive experiences that define our museum.
