The Beach Institute

The Beach Institute was founded in 1867 during Reconstruction as the first official school for African-Americans in Savannah, GA. Today, the original historic building is home to the Beach Institute African-American Cultural Center, Savannah's flagship organization for African-American arts, history and historic preservation.

The Beach Institute and The King-Tisdell Cottage are closed for the following Holidays: New Year’s Day Martin Luther King, Jr. Day St. Patrick’s Day Observance July 4th Labor Day Thanksgiving Christmas Day

Closed to the Public when Private Events are held at either museum.

Closed when severe weather conditions occur (T-Storms, etc are indicated by the national weather systems as a severe warning).
