“They told an entire generation to skip the trades, and now we’re all paying for it.”

I count myself lucky to have had several key influences in my life who were “shop teachers.” Their guidance taught me far more than just how to work with my hands — they taught problem solving, work ethic, creativity, and pride in craftsmanship.

So when a shop teacher friend asked The Mount Medic to help a few outdoor-minded students with their projects, I jumped at the opportunity. As the son of an educator myself, I couldn’t think of a better way to give back and hopefully help spark the passion of some future tradesmen and craftsmen.

These projects were on display this week at the Michigan Industrial Technologies Education Society’s annual showcase — and the students brought home some hardware! Congratulations to everyone involved. The future of the skilled trades is in good hands!

What an incredible weekend at the Michigan Taxidermist Association’s Annual Convention & Competition!

Ben had the opportunity to compete alongside some of the best in the industry—and brought home some hardware with this custom-built turkey habitat!
🥇 1st Place Habitat – Professional Division
🥇 Judge’s Choice Best of Category – Professional Habitat

The Mount Medic also hosted a habitat seminar, where we were able to share knowledge while picking up plenty of valuable tips, tricks, and fresh ideas from others in the field.

A HUGE thank you to the MTA for putting on such a well-run event and creating an awesome environment for networking, learning, and pushing the craft forward.

Another beautiful Michigan black bear has found its forever home on this habitat display by The Mount Medic! Though he specializes in amazing custom home additions and remodels, Austin at Hauck’s Custom Woodworking knocked this hardwood oak base out of the park!
