Today marks the 162nd Anniversary
of the Battle of Jenkins’ Ferry, Arkansas.
It is considered to be one of the bloodiest battles in the Trans-Mississippi Theatre, during the American Civil War. Union and Confederate forces numbering in the thousands, fought amongst the flooded Saline River bottoms, for seven hours in the rain, mud and hail of bullet fire. Union troops escaped Confederate forces by constructing a pontoon bridge, in order to cross the swollen river.
The resulting number of Union casualties was reported to be around 700, the number of Confederate casualties resulted near 1,000.
The Battle of Jenkins’ Ferry is a substantial part of Grant County’s history. We invite & encourage everyone to visit the Museum, and learn more about it. Our Civil War Gallery houses an impressive collection of artifacts from the battle site and more!

The Museum will be closed Saturday,
Feb. 14th. We will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, Feb. 17th, at 9:00 AM.

Due to annual maintenance & repairs, the Museum will be Closed to the Public from Wednesday, Dec. 31st, at 2:00 PM, to Saturday, Feb. 1, at 10:00 AM.
