Someone asked today if Arts in SoPo is only for South Portland artists. The short answer is no. If you're willing to drive to drop off your artwork and to pick it up, by all means feel free to apply to our shows! The assumption is that most artists will come from the "Greater Portland" area, but there is really no restriction.
Our community involvement, however, will be focused on South Portland. That's our home.

PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING...
Good morning South Portland and surrounding areas artists! Today's the day we embark on this new adventure together. Because I am not sure how many of you will be applying for our group shows, there will be two "twin" shows running concurrently for our grand opening.
- "Celebrating SoPo" will be the featured show. These entries will be given priority for wall space and placement in the gallery.
- "Share your art!" submissions will be accepted if we still have space. Feel free to apply to both shows.
- As a general rule, the gallery aims to be family friendly given its location in a busy shopping center. Therefore we will not accept artwork depicting nudity, violence, drugs, etc... The curator has the final say on selection.
- While we feel that Digital paintings and AI Art both have a place in the Art World, this gallery is simply too small to accommodate all mediums, so the decision was made to focus on non-digital work (with the exception of photography)
- We will potentially accept a limited number of small sculptures in the future. Stay tuned for more on that.
Can't wait to see your entries and to welcome you and your Art to the gallery soon!

Planning to submit your work to the gallery? Please review our requirements. We are happy to assist new artists who are not familiar with these techniques. Our gallery hanging system uses cables and hooks that do not accommodate sawtooth hangers. Work that is not wired will not be accepted on drop off day. Maximum weight: 30lbs. Maximum size: 48"x48" (limited number of large pieces accepted as we try to accommodate as many artists as we can.) Can't wait to see your submissions!

“Arts in SoPo” had a previous life as “Arts on Main” in NJ. When I closed the gallery in 2024 and moved to Maine, the artist community put together this photo book with testimonials and cherished pictures from our time together. THIS is what I aim to re-create here in South Portland with “Arts in SoPo”. Join me as we build something special in our city!
